they just cut away some of the tin to give it more adjustability they don't actually touch the mount points/hard part of the tower.
the plates give caster/camber adjustability the bolts just give camber adjustability and caster is left with whatever the cars base setup can do you also get more travel so more available degrees on a plate than a simple bolt. if you're doing it old school though you don't even need the bolts just need a dremmel to turn the factory bolt hole into a slot so the factory bolt can slide in/out
