Unless something's changed (I'm a native TexanQuestion:
In some States, if the vehicle is bought new, the Dealer places a white Dealer inspection sticker on the windshield and the car does not need to be inspected at all (safety or emissions) for at least 4-5 yrs from the sold date/year.
So for instance in NJ, a vehicle bought new in 2017, the owner does not need to take it through any State inspection until year 2022.
In TX, you have to get a new vehicle inspected so soon??
Texas is much more thorough than many other states on emissions control testing. They used to randomly put the sniffer up the tailpipe in addition to doing the computer check.
Here in Oregon, a brand new car doesn't need to be checked by the DEQ for four years. When you go into DEQ, they plug in to the OBD II port, and if there's no errors, you pass (well, as long as nothing is obviously amiss, like a gassy exhaust smell ;) ).
