Parking Lot Nonsense

Haha I appreciate all the ideas about how to handle my neighbor and her kids. I haven't seen them in my driveway lately, maybe she took notice of me almost hitting one as I was parking?

I figured next time I see them playing in my driveway I'm going to mention to her that they need to be playing elsewhere and a.) not in my driveway and b.) not anywhere near my car. If she gives me an attitude I'm just going to shrug and say "hey listen it's my property my call don't like it take it up with the city."

In the event that she doesn't listen I'm going to speak with her father and he'll let her know, I remember him disciplining her when she eas younger and in high school. He used to straight up bitch smack her lol. Maybe she needs another one of those.

A friend of mine used to carry a small vial of super glue in his car...if someone parked near him and dented his car, then he just glued all their locks shut!

If someone parks next to you with a bumper strapped on with bungee cord, a primered fender, and paint peeling off the roof... they aren't parking there for your protection. On the other hand, a nice clean car, I think it's a safe bet they are just parking where they know at least one of side of the car is safe and the other side is just not likely to be used. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm staying at a hotel right now and it stays pretty well filled up, so parking alone is all but impossible. I just try to grab and end spot and get as close to the curb as possible. I woke up this morning to discover I had a new buddy... a blue 2015 Mustang parked right next to me!

I almost stayed there to wait for the owner to come back and ask them why they chose to park right next to the only car out there in the parking lot. Why do people do this? Are they just zombies who don't think, or is there some underlying reason why someone would do that? Maybe they wanted to look at the car, but dude ... please park a spot or two away and look.

You are jumping to conclusion too quickly. Perhaps indeed it was a good samaritan. Becasue I do the same as you do I will aslo park beside nice ride to "protect" them. I know I am very careful and will not ding them.

You cant add tone to text. Maybe he was just sharing how his friend handles it, not that his friend was proud. Its possible that his friend is proud, its also possible that hes not. Some people do things out of frustrations, doesn't make them proud.

A few thoughts:

1. Some people do it on purpose because they know it'll wind you up.

2. Most people park next to other cars. It's easier to place your car in the middle of the spot if there are already cars in the ones next to it.

3. There are malicious people who will pick out a car like yours (parked in "no man's land") and vandalize it. I'll take a door ding over a keyed door/fender/hood any day.

4. The best spots are usually the ones next to the islands amongst all the other cars. Park as close to the curb as possible and there will be plenty of room between you and the spot next to you.

I like the idea of parking a few spots away from The Herd. But depending on location, time of day, etc, those empty spots can fill before you return. The more empty spots you pick when you park, the more you migrate towards No Man's Land. Damned either way, it seems.

I will admit that I have recently bookended a Merc parked sideways taking up 3 (yes 3) parking spaces with one of my buddies. Didn't do anything to the car and even climbed out my passenger side to avoid hitting it. If you are that much of an ass that you think you need 3 spaces and to park sideways I have no problem giving you some special treatment.

To the OPs post I have found it best to park near other nice cars. There are lots of pony cars in my area as well as BMW and Merc so I can usually squeeze between a few other door ding conscious drivers with little worry when the island spot isn't available.

There might be some faulty logic there. If there is a car with twenty empty spaces around it, you're saying you would park right beside it to give the driver peace of mind by protecting one side? If it was my car, I'd feel better if you parked two spaces over. As for protecting your own car, how do you know that the first car doesn't have a large driver who needs to open the doors really wide to get in or a kid on the passenger side?

Around here, I park a few spaces farther away than the majority of the cars and like-minded drivers will park with at least a one space cushion.

I agree with this ... and that's why I thought it was strange that someone would park right next to me when there were literally dozens of empty spots on either side of me. If I had dozens of spots on either side of a car in no mans land to park, I certainly wouldn't park right next to that lone car out there, but rather a few spots away. I wouldn't want the guy to think I was screwing with him, and have him vandalize my car over it.

yep, its pretty easy to figure out if you're being trolled by a dodge neon, or if they are just joining you because they want to be buddies, like someone posted today they found another S550 parked next to theirs.
