If you turn in a plate to your insurance company for your claim its a "not at fault" claim. If you simply turn in a claim with no plate and no police report it will be considered "at fault". It makes a difference when your premium becomes due again....
What are you going to do with a license plate? Do the police even care? Is it considered a hit and run?
