So I want to paint my brake rotor hubs and calipers black. I plan on using the G2 caliper paint for the calipers but I'm not sure what to use for the rotors. I'm thinking that some high-temp spray on paint like VHT should work well. My question is, do you think that I'll have to remove the light surface rust that's shown in this photo of one of the rotors? What would be the best way to remove the rust? Or, do you think I could just use a rust-stopping primer like Rustoleum?

I would wire brush the hell out of the hat to get all the rust off, then hit it with a couple coats of high temp primer and a couple of high temp caliper paint. It won't last, but have fun!

Throw a pic up when you get them on the car. I’m planning on swapping mine out soon. Just waiting on the shields to come in.
Any concern on temperature on those? Are the metal cast colors high temp paint?

lol. Waiting on my shields to come in too. Well one of them.

Yeah, metal cast paint is high temp. I think 500*
I used it before on other calipers and it's fine.

I just wire brushed the hat and masked off The rotor surface with tape.
no primer, just slapped on the paint.
it took a lot of paint, the hat soaked it up.

It looks good. That’s definitely the look I want. What do you mean by “it took a lot of paint”? 1 full can of G2? More than 1 can?

It took about 3/4 of a can for all 4 rotors.
Had to do 2 to 3 coats each.

I think you should clean the surface where the wheel touches the rotor again. This is supposed to be a metal-to-metal contact and not some coat in between. You won't see this anyway as long as the wheels are mounted.

All depends on the wheel you use.
My Niche wheels show about 1/2" of the hat surface when mounted.
looks like crap, that's why the whole hat is painted.

Here is a shot after several hundred miles.of brake dust.

Forgot to ask. What “Clearcoat” is everyone using to go over the new decals? Want to avoid any yellowing as I’m going With silver stickers over the red calipers
