I have a GT with the Automatic Transmission.

Elsewhere in this Forum it was mentioned that you can use the paddle shifters to select a gear without having to toggle into Sport or Sport+ mode, and without having to shift into S. And that actually works. But, it was also mentioned that the transmission will only stay in the paddle-shifted gear (while the select lever is still in D) for a short time and then reverts back to normal D mode. And that is true too.

So my question is, "Once you have used the paddles to select a gear, how do you force it out of the paddle-shifting mode without having to wait until the car decides on its own that it's time to take it out of paddle shifting mode?"

Dunno where I heard it but a way to do it is to shift out of D and back into D.

Hey there packick, the ZF6 clone we have has many features on it that allow what you are asking.

S = will allow for you to stay in paddle mode until you shift back to drive or park - you have to hit a paddle to iniate
D = Temp paddle mode and will go right back to "auto drive" mode within a few seconds as it shifts

I know that sometimes finding info when searching can be tedious in forums - however - there are some pretty good threads in the transmission sub forum that discuss the works of the tranny!

Take a look around! Folks will always find a way to try and help!

It only holds the gear for a couple of seconds before switching back to automatic mode. There isn't really a need to try and force it to switch back.

The system determines when temporary manual control is no longer in use and returns to automatic control.

The transmission automatically upshifts if your engine speed is too high or downshifts if your engine speed is too low.

Upshifts when accelerating (recommended for best fuel economy)
Shift from:
1-2. 15 mph (24 km/h)
2-3. 25 mph (40 km/h)
3-4. 40 mph (64 km/h)
4-5. 45 mph (72 km/h)
5-6. 50 mph (80 km/h)

I usually use the paddle shifters when heading into town. There, the road has a long downhill grade and the speed limit turns to 25 mph. Shifting via the paddles into 3rd gear seems to slow down the car and maintains the 25 mph speed.

However, I have noticed that if I keep adding a little gas pedal while in paddle mode, the transmission stays in paddle-shift mode. But if I leave everything alone, then it automatically reverts back to D mode after a short time.

So I am wondering if it doesn't automatically shift back into D mode if you are mucking around with the gas pedal.
