If the answer could be found with the search feature please dont ding me. I cant launch the search box from my phone.

I was adding air a few nights ago and noticed my rear tires are worn significantly. I had thought they were fine but I guess I didn't pay enough attention. I'm at 10k miles though and based on what I've read here that's a good life span. The front tires are perfect.

BUT..the wear areas are weird. The passenger rear is more worn than the driver side, and they both are worn MUCH more on the outside two channels. Ive had the correct tire pressure since I bought it and I've only done two burnouts that were about 2 seconds long.

I was telling my cousin who drives a BMW 540 and he said for his car the worn areas aren't supposed to be even. Is that the case for the S550 with performance pack? Or do I possibly have a case to argue workmanship if the car turns out to have come from the factory with bad alignment?

If there was any chance at all, and there isn't anyway, you can't argue about a tire with 10K on it, you get an alignment and two new tires. 10K on these things is a pretty generous mileage for what we're all reporting. I got about 10 out of mine before a nail in the sidewall did one in but I was already shopping for new ones by then.

Oh its very possible to have bad alignment from the factory.
They don't spend too much time align cars from the factory. Usually they just set it roughly where it should be and call it good.

My passenger/rear wore much quicker than the drivers side. Particularly the outside 2/3 of the tire. Ford said alignment was fine but that the right side is the drive side.

Discussion topic here: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60375

I made it to 12k and no tread was left on the outer 2/3. Would have replaced sooner but was waiting on ordered tires.

Thanks, I read your thread.

Unless I've completely lost it, the left tire is the primary drive. It's the first to slip, spin, chirp on hard downshifts, etc.

A guy at work has a camaro SS and had the same tires (no idea if the compound is the same, but they're p-zero). He said he got 18k out of the first set and 23k out of the replacement set. He had to argue to get a discount on the second set. He said his also wore the way mine did, and the tire shop guy said it's because of the way the fire flexes during launching/sudden hard acceleration. Said the outer portion of the tire is what's doing most of the gripping.

Getting the alignment checked, etc purely to find out about a possible warranty claim is something I dread because I just don't like messing with it, but I think I'm gonna give it a shot. I dunno if I should have it all checked at the dealer or get it checked and possibly alligned (if needed) at another shop and take the printout to the dealer. I also wonder if I should take it to the dealership where I bought it. It's about 2 hours away. Might give me a bit more clout though, and I do have a few free oil changes waiting on me.

You might want to have the alignment shop put the car up on scales to see what tire has the most load. This is why some of us use adjustable ride height shocks. Best performance if weights even front to rear/side to side.

If the wear is uneven then it could be alignment issues.

Also keep in mind that Pirelli tires are known on the S550 to wear out very quickly so that is not uncommon.

Also for the GT PP the car comes factory with -1.5 degrees of camber on the rear so thats normal to have there.

FYI on the search issue, i have the same problem with the dialog not staying open when I go to type. My workaround is to click on "Advanced Search" and search from there.
I'll give that a shot next time. As it stands, it pops up a search box for a fleeting moment then disappears.

I took another close look and they aren't as bad as I thought. My only real concern is that both rear tires are slightly concave, which don't know how happened unless the tires running 34-35 PSI hot caused wear in the center.

Which has me wondering if it would be a good idea to have them running maybe 31 hot to see if it'll wear more on the sides and even out a bit. I think the tread itself will make it until the dead of winter since the mileage will be decreasing quite a bit soon.

Would dropping pressure a bit be a bad idea?

try it and see what happens.

I've brought this up to my guys over at Pirelli waiting on a response back.
