You'll be fine for a DD. I've had weeks where the weather was between 36-45 degrees on my way to work (in LA county no less!) and I just drove "normal". No spin, no weird handling issues, just don't act like it's 30 degrees warmer outside and you'll be fine. However, can't go wrong with getting anything from Paul Need4SpeedMotors.

I'll have my fun in the warmer states and then take it easy once we start getting further north. And based on the drive home and what the weather looks like in the coming weeks I'll decide about getting winters or braving the rest of winter on the P-Zeros.

Well then I would say, watch the weather reports starting a week before your intended pickup day. Don't go if there are snow storms predicted.

I have learned to watch the weather reports. Takes just a few minutes, and it helps me plan ahead.

Yeah that's my plan.

Can anyone recommend a good winter tire and/or good wheel/tire combo?

Are the Conti Extreme Contact DWS 06s good enough for winters? Or should I look for a true winter tire (snow/ice tire)?

They aren't that bad. I've dd mine all winter with temps down into the teens. They're a bit slick until they warm up, but are fine after that. They aren't "slick as ice" in any way. Granted, I am in NC.
