I'd go for one on my car except my partner slams boot lids down and is likely to break it. In my mind it distances the look of the G6 rear end even further from this Toyota Celica: http://s40.photobucket.com/user/alfazer/media/rearleftra28.jpg.htmll

It is obviously a personal taste thing but I personally think it depends on the valance. The stock valance I believe plays on the existing factory lines rather well as intended by the vehicle design team. It is interesting reading about Fords consideration of after market personalisations and as such their design ques took this into account among a myriad of other reasons. I read this in the book "Mustang 2015" and it makes total sense as they recognized the power of its colt following being part of the success of the S550 and as they say, no one buys a mustang for logical reasons, its an emotional choice almost 100% of the time.

And I think its a good point to take on board. If you do not play around with the rear end at all, stock looks awesome. If you put a Roush style Valance, I personally think the boot lid looks suddenly plain and is not consistent with the aggressive look of the lower section. The GT factory spoiler and Roush spoilers seem to bring it home in this case.

We are having the GT350 valance fitted as we want ours to be more aggressive looking than stock. But in my opinion this style needs the three posted arching spoiler or the actual GT350 spoiler as having no spolier on this setup to me looks stylish but lacking. And the Roush style spoiler looks out of place as the valance squares off more flush with the back vertical axis compared to the Roush that rolls in under, so it needs a spoiler that does not extend but sits back in line with the valance and deck panel axis.

I fully believe the great thing about Mustangs is that just about any look is awesome from different perspectives. But I do feel a spoiler will make or break the style lines if there is a miss-match of style intent between valance and boot lid.

sorry for the long post, I have been studying the rear style lines for 7 months now while deciding our setup so I find it a mutually interesting topic.

I don't entirely agree - while any car purchase other than a Jazz is driven by want more than need, the Mustang makes a logical choice over a lot of other alternatives...

Name another large convertible at a similar price point; if you can think of one in the new car market then compare the performance.

Performance isn't a purely emotional choice - generally a car that can accelerate better can also brake better too - that means it's safer, even if you don't exploit it as a traffic light drag racer.

Convertible is a safety choice as well - you can hear all the traffic much better than a roofed car even with its windows down; you can hear the birds and the rustle of the wind in the trees which reduces stress and increases life span.

My choice was purely logical

Yours is a fair point. I was just quoting Ford in part. I think their comment is based on reasons for the design cues being reminisent of the cars roots and explains why it didn't get digital dash etc.

As far as proportion goes, the spoiler is fairly aggressive/large in the pic above, but in my opinion it doesn't look out of place, from that angle at least, despite it being (unless I am mistaken) a standard EcoBoost (with smaller wheels than the GT).

Yeah I quite like it from that angle too. I think it looks good because it flows similarly to the valance angle. But I wonder if it still holds well looking square on? I personally find this is the problem angle.
