the majority of the naysayers are missing the point altogether. Unless these links/stories you are posting up are regarding 2015+ mustangs and their specific LED stop lamps, there's really no merit to your argument...

yeah that's what I was referring to in my earlier post, the spray tint garbage you buy at vatozone. However, the actual tint strips is like window tint, and much higher quality and therefore more visibility. I was behind my GFs car last night and it was pitch black, I couldn't even tell her taillights were tinted with the lights on.

Also remember on the 15 the tint only covers 2 of the 3 side of the light. There is still an untinted portion of the taillight exposed. That will always make the tinted lights brighter than some spray on stuff.

People want to have a badass street looking car...DUH.

Hence the murdered out looking car that looks mean...Have you not asked yourself why people plastidip the badges and emblems?...To get that look that is stealth...LOL
The problem here is that "badass street looking" is running in a direction exactly opposite to "badass street functioning".

Stealth is the right thing, obviously, for a fighter jet or a bomber. Exactly the wrong image to be trying for when you're stuck having to share the road with the rest of us.

I've been put in a situation where somebody's 'stealth' front turn signal damn near had me hitting him because they were too dim to see in the daylight. He had likely been congratulating himself "I'm badass, yeah I'm badass" over his lighting treatment right up to that moment. Damn right I'd have mentioned that to insurance, together with a cellphone picture.

I guess with all the bullshit aside...It would be as good as someone asking you why you need to have an aftermarket exhaust on your car?
Decent enough argument that I can actually agree with. I have no problem leaving my cars' exhaust systems OE until they actually break in some fashion.

I think this looks good...
As a static display that does not get driven, sure. Nice, clean contrast that isn't overdone. Makes it the perfect car for the member known as Ultrakla$$ic.

Mostly wrong for everybody else.

Well, considering headlight tint is illegal in all 50 states, I'd have to agree with you. However, we're talking about taillight tint (read: not blackout paint) that barely diminishes the light output on a vehicle that has exceptionally bright taillights.

it's not 50% less. tint is maybe 5% loss if that because the tails are so bright to begin with.
Keep in mind that "maybe 5% loss if that" corresponds to 95% or higher window tint (which nobody interested in tint would ever buy and may even be lighter than OE).

Something that everyone seems to be forgetting...... Not everyone on the road can see as well as you assume. Seniors, people that are color blind, those driving impaired, and people blind in one eye (my sister) are the first that come to mind. I'm sure there are other examples.

Decreasing the ability for any of these people to see your tail lights can be rolling the dice with your car. The reason the third tail light is required on vehicles now is because research found that it significantly reduced rear end accidents because people identified the brake lights sooner.

Tint or no tint, it's something to consider before you do it. Not everyone drives and interprets what cars are doing on the road like you.
This ↑↑↑ .

If I don't see somebody's darkened taillights soon enough for the guy behind me to get himself stopped in time, that's still a problem caused by the dark taillights. I have a few mods on my car that give me a stopping distance advantage over most and I (still) have the skillset to take advantage of that. That people behind me may not is nearly always on my mind. But it might not be during a sudden and truly extreme braking situation.

I was talking about turn signal tint, not headlight tinting. It was broad daylight, around noon, not a cloud in the sky.

Just because insurance coverage hasn't been denied/voided over this tinting of lights elsewhere besides OP's location doesn't mean that it might not happen eventually. I understand the concept of state regulations involving the visibility distance required, though I don't know whose vision that has to be qualified to. A teen's or 20-something's with 20/13 or the senior's with 20/40?
