Anyone else here having a professional installing Opticoat Pro or 2.0? I would highly recommend it as long as you have someone professionally install it.

If you don't know what it is, look up reviews or youtube blogs over long periods of time, its a permanent coating that basically adds a second layer of protection onto your clearcoat (almost like a new clearcoat), harder on the hardness scale so it is less prone to scratching, more hydrophobic and dirt repelling so it is easier to clean and you can use a less aggressive soap, also prep work involves lightly polishing the car to remove any imperfections and factory orange peal, so your car will look better than it did new, literally.

I am doing this as soon as I receive the car.

I thought about opticoat, but I'm going with xpel film instead. It defends against rock chips (which has basically ruined the paint on the ST's hood) and you can wax over it. I plan to cover the hood, front bumper, rocker panels and part of the roof.

I am pretty sure you can still top opticoat, it just does not last as long because it is very resistant to any type of "contamination"

I did read that any "shine" that is prepped into the paint will stay, so if your person prepping the car does a perfect job, the car will "look perfect" all the time after a simple wash

At that point, I think it would break my price constraint. I'd much rather wax it twice a year... I'm sure Guard will look amazing with some decent wax on it (In my case, Pinnacle Sovereign)

How much are you paying for it if you don't mind me asking? The starting price for only the paint for my guy is about 1600, and he is very experienced with detailing, i might have the glass done as well excluding the front windshield

Wow this is pretty cool stuff! One of my coworkers had this done to his Buick GS at the dealer I believe. I did some research. In my area it seems to be going for about $1000 including all the paint corrections. Definently having this done to both of my rides!

On my C7 I had the car paint corrected and then he applied CQuartz Finest. The paint on the C7 needed some extra attention as I instructed the dealer to not prep the paint, or even wash the car. Since they are shipped by train and truck with a cover on them it had some abrasion marks, especially visible on the exposed carbon fiber roof.

Six months later, the car still looks awesome and repels water like nothing else. You do still need to take care not to introduce more swirl marks though. OptiCoat and CQuartz are "scratch resistant", but will still pick up swirls if you are careless in your washing methodology.

Later I got my wife's new car and took my Griots polisher to it with a 2 step of Meguiars 105 and 205 and then applied OptiCoat 2.0. Obviously I am not a pro, but the results look better than any car I have owned in the last 25 years where I simply did clay, wash, wax/polish/sealant.

If you can prep your paint to a level you are happy with, I would suggest using either of the retail coatings (OptiCoat 2.0, or CQuartz UK) to lock in your finish.

Oh, don't forget to fully clean and coat your wheels too. Brake dust is 99% removed with just a strong stream of water.

I'm having a professional do it, and I realize opticoat is just basically an extra later of protection, you have to care for it as you would normal clear coat, it is just much more durable

I'm taking my car in this weekend to get it opti-coated. The guys quoted me $499 + prep work for the opti-coating.

Pro? I've seen some people offer cheap applications of the 2.0 stuff and it's not as good.
It's opti-coat pro. Again I'm not sure how much he is going to change for prep work. He probably adds a bit more on the prep work.

I'm doing my paint correction myself, i have been practicing on all my friends and family cars to where i have it down pretty good. There really is an art to doing it correctly, but not out of the reach of your average detail enthusiast.
Opticoat lasts the longest of any of the commercially available sealants, but 22ple seems to have the deepest shine, makes the car looked like it has been dipped in clearcoat. It lasts about a year and is much easier to apply. Thats what i'm going with as i'm looking for the deepest shine possible. Cquartz is also very good. Any of these products lock in the finish, so it is important to have the paint corrected before application. On new cars there should not be a ton of correction needed. I just did a 2000 chevy truck that was not washed but once every 6 months and sat under trees outside the entire time. Ill try to post some pics when i get a chance. The difference was amazing

Here's mine after Opticoat Pro. I know, the blue wheels have to go. They are getting powdercoated gloss black sometime in the near future.

WOW that came out great. How smooth is it? After reading tons of reviews on opticoat it seems to have more of a gritty feel. Is that true?
