Wow i didnt realize it would be 1000 to have my car detailed with either of these applied. Do i need to shop around or is that really how much you are looking to spend to have the pro's apply this stuff.

Depends on who is applying the coating. friend of mine got his F350 diesel done for about a grand. they aren't too far off with the pricing. you might be able to find it a little cheaper.

keep in mind, there's more to it then just washing and applying that stuff. the paint has to be free and clear of everything and most of the time, paint correction is needed

Not sure it's worth it to be honest ... what does it really do for you?

It doesn't prevent swirl marks. Maybe keeps dust from adhering to the top layer of wax that otherwise would ... you don't have to wax the car but apparently some still do anyway.

Once they come up with a coating that keeps swirls at bay I'm in. Until then, not seeing the value to be honest ...

I got the Cquartz Finest applied on the full exterior of my 2016 Ram Sport 4X4 regular cab truck, including all plastics, windows and wheels. Stage 1 paint correction and 2 year warranty = 950 bucks. Included a full interior detail and engine bay detail, which I wasn't really interested in, but since it was included, even better!

Where did you have it done? My quote was from Northeast Auto Salon in Hudson, NH.

it has an engine!
In my opinion both are a waste of cash. Id use menzerna power lock and follow up with auto finesse spirit or collinite 918. Id also invest in learning how to use a da like griots garage 6 inch random orbital polisher. It has more power then the porter cable by almost double or learn on a rotary like a flex.

As for both coats, either usually costs almost 1500. Very rarely is someone thats cheaper worth it over the higher priced people. If they are cheaper they are either not possessing the skills to comand a higher price or they are starting out and very good but lack customers. Usually its not the latter.

Had it done at Unique Car Care in Stoneham, MA.
I can send you photos if you're interested. It wasn't a sunny day out, so it wasn't gleaming in the photos, but still looked amazing. I drove home in the rain for over an hour and the reflectivity from the sun the next day was amazing. The wheels stayed clean too. It was weird the way the water was beading on the hood. Pretty awesome stuff.

Snake oil IMO but everyone is entitled to their opinions. 2 nanometers over protection is nothing; its a fraction of a human hair thick.

You can get the sale water beading and slickness from a good $30 bottle of sealant and $30 wax- that will last you 2 years of applications.

Obviously the detailers push it considering they make huge profits off it. Just like coating over clear bra- protecting clear removable plastic  All a money making gimmick IMO

I paid just under $1K for my Opti-coat Pro which included the interior and wheels.

I've had the car for 9 months now and 11,500 miles and I have ZERO rock chips on the hood or front bumper, and ZERO swirl marks on the paint. I do have hard water spots but no coating can prevent that for an extended period of time.

It was worth it to me, and BTW I've not waxed the car once since it was coated at <500 miles.

I personally applied CQuartz UK myself. Honestly, if it held up even 1 year, I figured it was worth the 80 bucks to just try something new and different. Applying the product is pretty easy, but prep is not for the faint of heart. My paint was in great condition as I had prepped and applied Zaino from the day I took the car - I didn't even have the dealer wash the car as I wanted to do it myself. Before starting, I noticed some minor swirls/micro scratches in the paint, but once the Zaino was removed from the paint, I learned the scratches and swirls were actually in the Zaino coating, and the paint was nearly perfect. I filled in a few rock chips (almost a week prior to allow the paint to cure), did a full prep of the paint (decon), and a light hand polish, followed by CarPro Eraser (over glorified isopropyl alcohol), then applied the Cquartz UK.

Honestly, I don't like the shine as much as a true wax, it just doesn't have the depth or slick look. It does have a bit of a glass-like shine though, it's something different. I knew this fact going in though. The one area of the car that really shows the shine off the best is in your driver side mirror, looking at the rear haunch, it reflects light well. The Zaino gave a deep smooth shine, the Cquartz give a sharper glass-like glare.

I honestly did the coating as I'd prefer to just re-apply CarPro Reload 3-4 times a year (quick and simple), and apply more coating once every 1 - 2 years. Even though some days I like detailing, it does feel like work from time to time, I'd rather be driving the car than cleaning it. I also hoped that the "anti-static" nature of the coating is better than wax for dust resistance. So far it seems to be, but is far from a miracle product. It does seem to wash up a slight bit easier.

Shop around. Call 4 or 5 of these guys and tell them that you want Opti Coat pro but are only going to pay a maximum of $500 and for them to call you if they can ever do it for that price.

Tell them that you had Opti Coat done on your car back in 2012 (even if you didn't. I did it so you can just use my story which is true) when it was cheaper and that you only paid $500 back then and this is all you'll pay now. Opti Coat raised their prices between then and now but that doesn't mean we have to pay it.

One of these detailers will have some vials still full of this stuff and one of them will do it for $500. Trust me on this.

Opti also sells a sealant that I understand lasts for a year or more. It's not expensive from AutoGeek so you might want to check that out. Ask others if they've just used this on their cars. It's supposed to be good.
