Started doing some research on helmets. Lots of stuff to read & listen too. Figured the best info might be right here from the 350 bunch. $ 200 - $5000 that is quite a difference! Hopefully gain some insight from members. Thanks!

In my amateur drag racing days, Bell was my preferred brand (full face). Make sure the expiration
date in the liner is still good. The track officials will prevent you from any racing if the date is past due.
Don't go cheap. Remember you only have one head.

Bought SHOEI they are pricey but good protection full face, went to a specialty motorcycle and cart racing store and looked at a bunch, they highly recommended this manufacturer

The question I like to ask is: do I have a $150 head or a $1000+ head? If you do an event or two per year, you can skimp, but any more than that you should invest in a good helmet.

I use a Bell sport. Good helmet that doesn't break the bank

Helmets are a very personal thing. On my end the last two in 10 years has been G-Force full face with a tented lens, used with a Hans Sport neck restraint. Great combo for my taste. Oh let me add what I think is one if not the most important thing for you to consider, especially if you do not use any neck restraint, WEIGHT. Pick the lightest you can afford. Just consider a few facts. The avg head is over 5lbs and the avg helmet is between 3 and 5lbs, add the G loads during a crash and you can imagine how much weight is loaded on your neck. I have seen more injuries due too the weight of the helmet then to the quality of the helmet. Also remember that a "SA" rated helmet is designed for use in the upright position, (sitting in a seat ), instead of the "chin up" position , ( leaning forward ), that most bike helmets, "MA', are designed for. Plus the "SA" helmets are made with fire resistant material.

jmn444, Great idea. Not sure even where to start to find a store that would carry several makes?

Go to a large motorcycle dealership, i.e. Harley Davidson to get an idea. M/C helmets are not allowed on
most race tracks, but at least you can get an idea on fitting capabilities by different manufactures.

I think the last place to buy a good helmet is a HD dealer. Let’s be honest here, most of those riders wear the little beanie skull type helmets or no helmets at all. I doubt you find the good Arai or Shoei ones there. Go to a place that sells Ducati or the Japanese bikes. One advice, if you have a rounder head go to Shoei or more pointy use Arai. I’ve cracked them severely racing motorcycles and it’s the only reason I’m alive now.
