So I was cleaning my engine and I found like an oily residue-ish ontop of my coil cover. It kinda looks like brake dust after you wipe your wheel with your finger. I also found some spotting on my garage floor underneath my car (it was dry, dusty like texture). Once again, its like a dusty, oily ish residue; it is NOT wet. I have cleaned it off, I don't know how long till it comes back. It's only on the one side.

Whats causing this

In the bottom pic it looks like the fitting on the PCV is wet...leaking oily vapor out.

Yeah, it's oil vapor from the crankcase/PCV system coming out of that fitting somehow. Then since it's sticky it attracts dirt and dust to it.

This is why people run breathers or catch cans, since that same oily vapor is going into your intake.

Is that the only place that you see the residue? I would check that fitting. Make sure the fitting is secure in the valve cover. I would take off the push lock line, make sure it's not missing an o-ring or anything, and make sure it fits tight and snug. A little residue like that isn't much to worry about if it's over a long period of time, but if its only coming from one spot in a short period of time something may be up.

Thanks for the responses guys. No I do not have a oil separator.
That is the only place I see the residue, I guess I will buy a catch can/breather and hopefully it fixes the problem.

Anyone have any recommendations for a paxton?

Just to clarify, an oil separator wouldn't fix the issue. But it would stop all that oil vapor from getting drawn into your motor.

I would just check that fitting and connection, maybe you need a new one. Try swapping the push connect fitting from the pass side to driver side and see if the residue continues or switches sides.
