I get a 1/4 cup out of my JLT every other month. No track/racing but I drive it hard and engine brake a lot.

Most of the time, the vapor doesn't really stick to the intake. It's more like a steam of vapor form instead of the liquid you see in a catch can after it being cooled and condensed.

Do you need, no. Just like OPG/Cam sprockets, we don't NEED them. It's just more of an insurance. I'm at 17k and haven't bothered. If I was pushing big HP I would install one because oil blowby can degrade your octane which in return can cause knock. That's an area you want to avoid when pushing the limits of fueling and the engine.

The only time i'd say YES you do NEED one is if you were driving a DI only car (Ecoboost).

Keep in mind the oil will make the intake pretty messy and gummy over time. Plus the oil winds up in the cylinder and therefore on the plugs. In my supercharged car when I added the catch can, it cured a very slight hesitation I had occasionally that was attributed to the plugs being fouled by trace amounts of oil. This was on an older mustang. So when I built this new one, its the first accessory I added. Its worth keeping the intake track clean IMO.
Keep in mind, we're talking airborne, trace elements. It would probably take several thousand years to coat the intake with enough oil to make it "gummy". There's more water vapour coming through the PCV than there is oil. Not to mention any oil that makes it from the PCV into the combustion chamber will be burned. There's more oil getting past your valve guides than there is coming in from the PCV and that's not fouling your plugs, either.

No sir, if the Ford Engineers don't deem it necessary, then I don't either. There isn't even a catch can on my little Shelby Daytona and that intake isn't "gummy" after 30 years!

Mostly worthless, even on EcoBoost. It's not 100% catching all the oil, and the oil that gets in the turbo hot pipes isn't even from the PCV system. The breather check valve oil fill cap is also worthless as it would just vent vapors through the fresh air tube under boost. And the amount of vapors coming out of the fresh air tube under boost is insignificant.

I have a JLT on my 3V and it does catch oil, but oil still gets past it. Then you have to drain it, etc...

Worthwhile for supercharged engines with intercoolers, but I still question their effectiveness given that EcoBoost residue buildup in the Intercooler isn't even from the PCV system and yet they still cool down the charge just fine with all that gunk in there.

This is one of those topics that has valid arguments for each side. Im going to point out though that the Ford Engineers DID deem it necessary, which is why they built one and offer it. It isnt on the car from the factory because it is a maintenance item that nobody would deal with. However talking to the engineers up there, they recommend it. And if you drain it every 10K miles or so and get a half inch of oil out of it, Id rather do that than have all that crap in my intake and valves and plugs.

its been mentioned, but i think they dont include because the average owner won't need it, won't know what it is, won't know how to empty it and most importantly won't even check it. they sale 6,000 Stangs a month and the majority of those owners have no "clue."

I can see the GT350 needing them as they have much more blow by due to piston design.
