So ,it sounds like the GT 350 pump flows significantly more than the GT pump.
Any idea how much more ?
I don't have any capacity data.
Gerotor pumps are positive displacement pumps that are quite efficient at working pressures under 2500 psi.
A well-designed and manufactured pump will operate at 80% efficiency or more.
The volumetric efficiency increases with RPM and decreases with temperature.
Internal leakage is a major factor in efficiency and is controlled by tolerances and the thermal expansion rates of the components.
So, the pressure produced is a function of both capacity and tolerances. Therefore, identically sized pumps can produce very different working pressures at similar volumes.
The Voodoo pump produces higher pressure because of tight tolerances. Ford specs a 20-50 oil to further insure very stable pump output at high oil temps. The shearing forces in these pumps can also shorten oil life so Ford specs a pure synthetic oil with a very specific additive package.
The sintered metal pump gears can be blended with powders that produce a wide range of metallurgical properties including reduced thermal expansion. This allows tight-tolerance pumps to reach close to 90% efficiency and very stable high temperature performance.
If your engine has proper internal tolerances, the Voodoo pump will give you a boost in pressure. If not, it will take one helluva pump to compensate for loose cam bearings, main bearings, etc.
If you use the Voodoo pump, consider using the Voodoo filter. It has different pressure relief characteristics than a Coyote filter.
