I’ve searched the forum and different threads. So, if I’m violating forum etiquette I apologize.

Lately, and it’s probably always been that way but I just noticed, on the first start up of the day the oil pressure gauge pegs. Stays that way, until it starts to warm a little, then it returns to what I would consider normal operation. Is that common? I couldn’t find anything about it in the manual either. I just turned over 7K miles today.

Yes 2021 Mach 1’s are programmed the same way.

It pegs, then bypasses, and then warms up and lowers.

Thank you. .But I'm curious to understand more. I’ve always told participants in my classes that the only stupid question is the one that goes unasked. So, I have two questions. Bypasses to where, The pan? Pegs why, to prove sufficient capacity?

I dont know enough about the Coyote, but to explain it, Ive just read the comments about it. I know at high RPM's it is really reading some pressure, but it has a lot of oil in it too and the oil powers a lot of the other components.

Here is one. Cold start it slams over then drops to 40 when bypassed, then it warms up. Then when you give it full boogie throttle it ramps up high to work with other components.
Just knowing all of this, I do not drive it hard until coolant temp is normal and cylinder head temps are normal.

What oil viscosity are you running? My car normally hits about 85 psi on startup and I keep the rpm low until the pump stops bypassing. The pump bypass is set at around 85-90 psi. I recently changed to Mobil 1, 0W-40 and noticed that my oil pressure pegs at near 100 on start-up. So I'm even more careful the first few miles.
Most 0W-20 or 0W-30 oils should not peg your oil pressure at start-up unless you are below 30 degrees.

I saw the same reaction with 5w-20 and 5w-30. Spikes to max, then drops down after bypass on cold start. I never drive mine hard until both the engine coolant temp is normal AND the cylinder head temp is normal. Sub 3k rpm shifts.
