Hello all, just a quick question that i couldnt find the answer for....yet. I have a very small oil leak on the rear of my oil pan, and hopefully not the rear main seal on my 2019 Mustang (or sump as we call it in Australia), what i wanted to know is that when you replace the gasket-

- do you have to buy to entire windage tray that has the oring style gasket built into it?
- can you reuse the current windage tray but just replace the oring style gasket?

Or am i getting it a bit mixed up and the 15-17 has the windage tray/gasket as one and the 18-23 is the oring gasket?

Thankyou🤟

Ok ended up finding it all out myself so all good😊 the 2018-23 models have the oring style gasket that fits on the windage tray in the oil pan and thats the part you replace GR3Z-6710-A (the oring style gasket) if you have a oil pan leak (unless the oil pan is cracked or whatever).🤟🤟

Of all the things that we can bitch about on our cars nowadays weeps and leaks have really become significantly less of a thing. With a far better understanding of expansion ratios of different materials and development of much better sealing materials as well, the leak has been sent far down the list of automotive maladies.

More often than not the leak, should it occur, is the result of improper installation of the parts and seal. From the factory they are rare, but it does happen.

Scrape away all old RTV sealer on the bottom of the rear seal plate area and the 6 spots on the timing cover (as well as the bottom of the block and tiMing cover) before installing the new gasket. I’m right here at this step as we speak. everything is clean and ready to accept the new gasket. I think part of the problem with leaks after a pan has been dropped is failure to clean the mating surfaces and the RTV acts as a speed bump, so to speak and creates leakage.

If you need me to take any pics, let me know what you need and I can take some before my timing cover and oil pan are reinstalled. My car is also a 2019 btw.

Photos always help and are also always handy because there will be more people doing the same thing in the future i would say, cheers🤟

Good catch on finding that part number - I did the same job on my '20 and you're right that the o-ring gasket is way easier to deal with than the older style windage tray setup.

Here’s another shot of the left rear corner of the oil pan and bottom of the timing cover. You want those areas (both sides) squeaky clean.
