Thread revival. So which oil catch can is more effective and easiest to use for the daily driver who wants to protect his engine?

Thanks Justin. It seems that I keep reviving threads and that you have installed everything that I need! :D

Is it easy to install and to empty?

I don't think it's that hard, especially if you take your time. I removed the intake manifold (relatively easy) to install mine and it makes it easier. I have Ford's IM removal instructions too, if you'd like them. Overall, I'd give it about a 3/10 on an install scale.

As far as emptying them, if you don't add a ball valve, then you'd just unbolt (1) 10mm bolt and pop the lines off. It's simple enough. I, however, added a 1/8" NPT ball valve fitting to mine, so I just hold a cup under it and open the valve to drain it.

I've been really pleased with mine and plan to continue running it for the foreseeable future.

Thanks man. This should be definitely the first mode one should do, even if they wanted to keep the car completely stock otherwise. These cars - actually every turbo car - should come with an oil catch can installed. The problem is that this cheap mod doesn't make sound and it doesn't improve the looks of the car, so it is overlooked by most (including myself).

How much better is the UPR vs Mishimoto?

The UPR with the upgraded valve will cost me $350 odd US, vs $150 us on the Mishimoto.

I will be running MAP Street FMIC, Cobb AP w/ e tune (though not too aggressive), NGK 6510s..

I guess aside from the complaint about the extra $$$, the fact that I have to drill into the OEM piping and pop those hoses means that the car is just that bit harder to stock for the dealer. So ultimately are we talking night and day difference? The WOT line is the biggest distinction though I am not full bottle as to the significance of the difference? Does it mean it catches more or is better at dealing with the pressure of a WOT pull?

Thanks in advance.

The UPR has a larger capacity so you don't have to drain as often, it is easier to drain when you add a 1/4" NPT mini ball valve. The biggest plus to UPR is if you get the DVCC style which will do its job at filtering even when boosting since it has a second vacuum source. UPR also has 2 check valves (I forget if mishi has any or not). The new UPR can comes with a silicon coupler that has a tee for the hose that routes to the intake of the turbo which requires no drilling or modifying the stock intake pipe.

Thanks Bam, I saw a few different manuals and different install videos and one did have that piece however wasn't clear what it came with from either of the websites I am looking to order from. Looking at the UPR website the linked instructions show having to drill into the turbo tube... I guess I'll have to clarify with them prior to purchase.

I'd you order one now, it'll come with the silicon coupler. Drilling into the intake was the old Gen 1 style and hasn't been used for some time.
