I just performed the first oil change at ~5700 miles the other day. I started it right afterwards to check things out (leaks, pressure, etc) and the pressure was fine, maybe a little on the high side but shortly returned to ~40-45 psi. I took it for a drive around the block a little while later and it seemed unusually high at about ~80 psi briefly hitting 90-ish under throttle. Last night I was driving it and it was around the same under throttle, slowly coming down to around a normal pressure under light throttle/idle.

Now, my question is, is this normal or does it seem a little on the high side. I'm worried that I may have under filled it because I bought 2 5 qt jugs and I put what seemed to be roughly 7.5 qts of 5w20 in it. I checked the dipstick (the best I could with that damn strut tower bar in the way :frusty:) and it was within the markings on the stick. I never really paid that close attention to the oil pressure gauge before this change so I really can't tell where it was but I don't think it was ever reading this high, I think I would have noticed. BTW temps here are around low to mid 80's during the times that this occurred, if that helps.

Am I being paranoid or am I good and just make sure to monitor it closely and make sure its not getting over 100?

Thanks guys/gals!

Oil pressure is going to fluctuate with engine RPMs, up down and ambient air temps have nothing to do with it. Sounds like you're normal to me, but in 5700 miles you never looked at the gauge...?

I mean I did, but I don't recall it being that high.

My oil pressure hovers around the same numbers while its cold. It's because the oil is cold resulting in higher oil pressure. It drops down to around 50psi while cruising.

This just happened to me today, checked my dip stick after work and I noticed I was missing about a quart. I started my car up and drove about a block to the auto zone to pick up some oil and the oil pressure was reading around 80-100 when under easy throttle. I thought it was really strange but after adding a quart it started reading normal again.

Thats about how much oil(7.5qts) i used a few weeks ago doing my first oil change. The damn dipstick drove me crazy. The cross hatch side seemed to never show a solid reading but the other side would read like there might be an overfill happening. Got to be the worst dipstick ever and under the stb..really Ford!
