Since most everything in this forum is based on speculations and vague teasers I thought a little discussion here would be fun for the new year. I am eagerly awaiting the release of the GT500, plan on going to the Detroit Auto Show to see it firsthand. Not planning on buying right away, but maybe one in the future. Hard to argue that the GT500 won't be the pinnacle of ford muscle so far to make it relevant to this forum.
So, how long do you think these horsepower wars are going to last in the auto industry. We saw similar things back in the late 60s, early 70s until gas prices, insurance, government regulations made it impossible to produce or buy or insure a muscle car. We see it now with electrification, mpg laws and gas prices are bound to increase again at some time.

Are we at the peak now or still have places to go? We are already seeing cars over 800hp from the big 3 automakers with turbos, blowers and racing suspension. Do you think this is a new 1970 where its mostly downhill from here or are there milestones to meet yet.

My prediction, this is it. We are living in the golden era of modern muscle, you should buy one and stuff it in the garage for the future.

The 2020 GT500 may be the last all Gas big HP mustang that Ford produces. The exotics are all going Hybrid/Electric of some kind in the next few years. In 10 years it’s doubtful they will still be selling all gas high performance vehicles. So your Prediction is correct!

I remember "enthusiasts" saying this about the 2000 Cobra R, the 2001 Cobra, the 2003 Cobra, and then the 2004 Cobra. And then of course the 2014 GT500 was the 'last of it's kind', and we would never see another car with over 650 HP from the factory. Those people sound so foolish now.

While you’re right, if it comes with a DCT only Iike expected, it’s already happening. I see people drive a Huracán or GTR and say they love the 350 so much better because of the feel and the connection. While I understand the need for that type of tranny at these crazy high competitive and performance levels, I’m afraid it’s gonna dull that feeling we all love so much.

Not trying to sound foolish, just looking for some discussion. I just can't see where we can go up from here. I am impatiently waiting for the Detroit Auto show to see the new 500. Right after I saw the Bullitt last year, I knew I had to have one.

Flying cars are right around the corner. If Doc Brown (Back to the Future) can do it with 2015 technology, we can do it with 2019 :)

Gas vs electric ENGINE

Or

Paddle vs. stick transmission

Are not in the same ballpark imho.

With the DCT, you can still shift when you want.

With an electric engine, the power characteristics and true sound are lost.

I can see the GT500 going dct only, but I imagine it will have a manual option.

The only real issue with that will be the complications of the computing system having to deal with manual input from the driver while maintaining synergy between the gas and electric drivetrain components - IF it will have an electric assist in the power dept...

The other possible issue is all the anti-Mustang car mags only testing the manual GT500 in order to infer that it is slower than it really is.

And Ford has mentioned the V8 is not going away for the Mustang. But it does sound like it will be getting some electrified help.

I just want to hear Ford is working on an aluminum block for the Godzilla engine and will put a naturally aspirated version in the GT350 and Raptor !

I was hesitant about wanting an all electric high output car, but I'll probably be right in line for it when it shows.
