Excuse me if this has already been discussed, but in searching on & off for a few days I didn't find the answer I was looking for. I have a '21 Ecoboost Premium with the performance and handling packages and the car came with Pirelli Corsa Summer tires in a 265/40-19 size. I want to switch over to an All Season tire and I've decided on the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4. Driving in my area...NJ, Philly, NYC...potholes are an issue with this being my daily driver. I was thinking of moving to a 265/45-19 to get a bit more sidewall height in hopes of more protection to the OEM wheels.

I plugged the the different size in the tire calculator to see the differences between the two....it calculates to 1/2" more in sidewall height and 1.1" in diameter.

Has anyone tried this already? Any issues with tire rubbing due to the larger diameter when turning or with suspension compression? It looks like the wheel well can handle this slight increase, but I just wanted to clear this with the experienced members here before moving forward.

Thanks to all who answer!!

See attached.

My greatest change in diameter involved the front. I moved from a 305/30/19 to a 285/35/19.

The change was .7 inch / 17mm increase in diameter. As you can see, I continue to have a rather large, some would say, unsightly, gap. LOL. Have had zero issues with tires rubbing against the body or suspension.

My concern with your proposed change involves percentages.

A general rule of thumb when changing tire diameter is to stay within +/- 3% of the original; you appear to be exceeding this, at 4%. Speedo changes are one thing, but if an auto, it could impact shift points. Brakes: ABS distances. No, your car will not immediately fall apart. But the changes have the potential to be noticeable.

Can you exceed the 3% rule? Many can and do, without issue and without making any adjustments. I'll let others with more experience chime in.

Stock suspension will allow for a ton of sidewall. I’m running a 45 aspect 315 with no issues.
