Has anyone else noticed that the screen doesn't dim until you restart it using the power+fwd combo?
I've noticed that the screen will not dim unless I touch the dash light dimmer button on the headlight control cluster. What is the power+fwd combo? Does that permanently fix the issue?

Are you saying that I just need to transfer the "SyncMyRide" files only to the USB? This is what is on my USB
No. I’m saying that the syncmyride folder plus the auto install file and the do not index file need to be directly copied on to the usb drive. They should NOT be placed in a folder that is copied onto the usb.

FYI the instructions on the Ford site worked today with no problems in my 2018 with 3.0 build 17276. Downloaded zip file. Copied the specified folder and files to a 32gb usb 3.0 flash drive. It took a few minutes before Sync indicated anything was happening and after about 10 minutes it told me it was done completely. Per the instructions I turned the engine off for just over 5 minutes and then restarted the car. Sync 3.0 build 18025 seems happy.

Mine didn't seem to dim with the buttons.

the pwr+fwd trick to restart the APIM is just that... you hold the power & track fwd button for 5-7 seconds and the APIM warm-boots. After the reboot the dimming seems to work, but it has to be done each time the vehicle is started at night.

There was one startup that seemed to work correctly, but I have no idea how that occurred and can't seem to repeat it.

Thanks for all the help members, with a special thanks to Kakemone for telling me about my folder transfer blooper:cheers: Finally was able to update. All went smoothly, no Nav. screen at first start but just restarted it and it came back. I will have to play around with it at another time. She is covered up for the next round of annoying snow. :frusty::tsk:

Yep, if you have nav, or, never upgraded to 2.2, should be easy peasy. Folks who have 2.2 on a non nav car are the ones that have to double clutch.

Hi, I am trying to update my Sync 3, but it says it's already updated, version 17194. A few months ago I used one version found here, Android Auto icon is missing since then.
Now, I was tring the version from official Ford owner site .
Any solutions?

You don't need to do all that, just modify one file and you should be good to go.
