This has been my hobby since 1976 at age 13. I have owned and built around 220 scopes. Most times these big scopes are out west in Cali and shipping prices are insane to ship these big scopes. This scope is close enough in GA that i would pay the seller some $ to bring it to me. Just the tube with optics would weight around 180lbs.How in H*LL does one acquire a telescope that big????
It was a observatory class scope back in the 60's and 70's. Once Celestron came out with the C8 these big scopes lost their luster.Hmmm, . . .thanks for the info. I just got my first small lesson in telescopes. It looks to me like that isn't a typical homeowner type telescope, looks like professional use/grade equipment.
No scope can do that. Our seeing is the problem. Moving air cells make a image boil at high powers. With equipment like that, would you be able to see the things left on the moon?
I have built plenty of scopes, but never did my own optics. That is a massive scope for an individual to own! I ran across John Dobson's instructional video on mirror grinding a few years ago, and I've wanted to try it ever since. For some reason I enjoy tedious projects. If I ever give it a go, it will be WAY smaller than a 16".
