Hi all,

New owner here, I've just taken delivery of a 2020 Bullitt Edition Mustang. I'm still getting used to it (very different to the 911 I just sold!) but I'm a bit stumped with a seemingly aftermarket button installed on the dash (pic attached).

Its a simple pushbutton and a red LED indicator below, with a black wire disappearing between the trim panels and seems to go downwards. I've dug around in the footwells and engine bay and dont see any aftermarking wiring and I'm stumped as to what it does.

- the LED was on coming up to a junction but pushing the button didnt immediately turn it off (it did a few seconds later)
- pressing it seems to do nothing, not even the LED comes on (tried with the car stopped, parked, running, moving and off)
- holding it down also seems to do nothing

If it wasnt for the LED coming on at one point I would have assumed it was a leftover and not connected.. but the LED came on seemingly randomly so it must be for something.

I bought the car online via Cinch so theres no invoices or anything besides the service book (thanks GDPR 😥!) but from the history I can see it spend a fair amount of time in the Netherlands so I did wonder if it was related to LHD headlights (its a UK car) but a bit of research suggests the Mustang cant move the headlights horizontally (true?) so that seems unlikely. I have been in touch with the Dutch garage to see what I can get out of them (nothing yet).

Another thought was some kind of parking mode for a dashcam.. but I dont see a dashcam and I wouldnt have expected the LED to come on if there was no camera connected to it.

Does anyone have any ideas before I think about pulling panels out? And no, its not a NOS kit 😂

I have front parking sensors.. are they not standard? They work fine, not had to push any buttons for them to work 😆

I think you might be right @jonny10buds , I found a similar thread on a TT forum. Mystery mostly solved.. I'd like to find out what make/model it is just so I know what to use the button for. I assume its for distance calibration but it would be nice to have a user manual

Thanks!

You're welcome Jeffers, as far as I'm aware front parking sensors weren't available as an option on the S550, any that have them will be an aftermarket fit, to find the make you need to track down the control unit which will probably be located behind the dash, more than likely the glovebox as that's easy to remove and get behind, if the sensors are emitting a noise that may give you a clue, I've also found the make by popping a sensor out and Googling any part numbers. The button will be to turn them off for example if you're in bumper to bumper traffic.

I think that’s an aftermarket front camera button.

I checked on a drive this morning and it does seem to mute the front parking sensors. I havent had much luck finding the box to get the make/model but I'm just happy to know what it is and that its a mute button. The sensors are very well calibrated so I dont need to do anything else with it

A reverse image search doesn't have any leads. Take a closer picture and try a reverse image search.
