Are those CX650's back there?

Hm, y'all are giving me ideas.

I have a 960 sq ft shop in my backyard. I'd like to do something with the concrete but I'm not sure what.

The thing is, is that my shop is not only for automotive work (with a Max Jax lift to come) but also for fabrication. I do a lot of work with torches and welding and so there are hot sparks and bits of slag flying around rather frequently; I'd imagine this could melt into something like VCT or Race Deck.

Because my shop is already populated with equipment I'd have to either lay deck in the interior or do one quadrant at a time over a period of weeks.

Any thoughts?

The car mats pictured above look like a good option. Part of me says there is no way flippin' way I would spend big $$ on making a garage floor look pretty. But OTOH there are several impressive looking garages pictured in this thread...... I'd sure love to have one.

RaceDeck is out of the question unless you can lay something down to protect it from the sparks etc. can’t speak for how the expoxy would hold up

a buddy of mine is a salesman for Fastenal and was able to hook me up with some "samples" of industrial grade garage epoxy... for FREE! :clap2: I was shocked considering the price of this product.... it really does help to know people. So I think im going to give it a go... since it was donated to me. Going to wait until it warms up a bit considering its 10 degrees right now here in PA lol! I think if this stuff starts to peel up I will probably go with the race deck.... I think that looks sharp! I wouldn't be doing anything crazy in there other than storing the car or doing simple mods.

Slab temps need to be 55 degrees or higher during the application and curing time for epoxy. Concrete prep is the most important step to epoxy sticking well.

Since I took that photo I've put up another couple shelving units and have moved some more stuff on to them, but the fact of the matter is that I have a lot of tools and equipment and I need to have access to a lot of it.

Maybe I should at least stain the concrete? Stuff definitely gets dropped though!

I actually own a pair of '82 CX500Ts. Not sure why I need two vintage Turbo motorcycles, but I have 'em! I just bought one of them and the fairing was removed for shipment; I need to put that back on. They're quirky, fun bikes though.

That shop doesn't look too bad. It's obvious you get involved with lots of different things. I'd leave the floor alone and scrub it with degreaser once in a while. I have a 1200 square foot shop and do 5 types of welding, all types of vehicle work and concrete does just fine. Earlier in the year I finished up a '66 big block Corvette coupe restoration then scrubbed the floor with good quality degreaser and you can't tell I ever restored the car in that bay.

What welding processes do you do? In my shop I stick to SMAW, GMAW (and FCAW/FCAW-G sometimes), GTAW, and oxyacetylene. I have to say, though, I reach for my Miller 251 most of the time these days.

Stick, mig stainless, aluminum, steel, oxygen and acetylene brazing, tig. I grew up stick welding and brazing mostly and have been gravitating to mig and tig in recent years. I own Lincoln in my home shop. I'm an electric forklift tech during the day for the past 33 years. I have a gasoline powered Lincoln stick welder in my service truck, but I love the Miller stuff too. My truck mounted Lincoln is from the early 80's...does the job when some jackass breaks something.

Build x2 bigger than you think you need. We will start building a 40x50 shop this year and I am second guessing myself.
