Think I have a new fault developing as my speedo and rev counter lights go out, only for a few seconds, but it's happened twice so far today, think I might have to let it develop a bit more before I take it in

That's odd, does it happen when your headlights are on? From the picture looks like they should be on 'Gauge colour' due to the light outside. Mine sometimes go off because of the sensor being blocked by something.

Have not tried it with the lights on, it was not as dark as it looks in the photo as the flash was on by the time I turned the flash off they were back on, think it could be a dodgy connection as the 1st time I lost it changing gear, then it came back when I changed again and I lost it again on a the bump at the end of the drive and it came back on parked in the garage

Sounds like you may have knocked something out of it's connector a bit...

Just take it for warranty; might be more hassle than it's worth to get ur head in and find it.

As you say will take it in for warranty, but would like it to be totally off or a lot more intermittent, so it would be easy to fix

Yeah, it's not causing that much of an issue just yet is it?

As you say it's not a problem, but seeing how I have just received a letter for wiring loom recall I will get them to look at it at the same time

Noticed this on mine as well but not convinced it is a fault. I seem to recall it happening when the lighting conditions change - i.e. heading down a road with a lot of tree coverage where the daylight is not as strong, the lights come on. Much like the auto dimming of the rear view mirror?

had a similar thing - the gauge lights dim sometimes (don't think they go completely off). Wonder if it's to remind you to turn the lights on if it's getting darker outside (assuming you have the switch set to manual)

My Audi used to do something similar - gauge lights went out if it got dark enough outside to need lights and you had the light switch on manual

The Ambient Dim menu option makes the instrument lighting go very dim when driving from sunshine and then going under trees or bridges and then very bright when emerging back into sunshine. Can be a little disconcerting.

tried that - makes no difference as far as I can see - gauge lights still dim on their own even with auto turned off !
