Hey guys. I need some help choosing a new exhaust system and I was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction. I just ordered a 2016 GT so I have some time to shop around.

I'm looking for an old school V8 sound. Deep, no rasp, no drone, loud but not over the top loud. Some of these exhausts sound like they belong on something other than a V8 mustang and they sound a little corny to me. Any help is greatly appreciated. From the research I've done so far, it sounds like I want a H pipe system. I like the sounds of the ARH and SW from what I've heard.

Sound is so subjective. Everyone will advise to buy the one they have on their car. I suggest listening to sound clips on YouTube. Just do a search of your your engine and the exhaust you want to hear...most likely it will be there. For ex. 2015 GT Borla S Catback. ( gee that is what i have and i love it ).

Absolutely! You have narrowed it down to what you like so that'll help. I know I like to change things after awhile so I bought an x pipe and Roush mufflers from the marketplace here. Half the price of most cat backs with the same effect (weight loss and sound). When I get bored I can change just the mufflers and sell off the Roush one's if I like them better. I know that's not the most practical thing in the world but I enjoy it. :headbonk:

An H-pipe will be what you are looking for, otherwise you just need to watch a ton of videos of the rest. If there are any local mustang meets perhaps attend one of those and see if you can hear some of the setups in person. Videos do not do this car justice though.

I have the MBRP street cat back. I do like it but wish at idle it was a little louder. This comes with them h pipe. The sound is old school till about 4k RPM's then seems to get raspy. So I'm thinking of selling this and getting flowmaster outlaw axle backs. Since I have my stock system still. Then in future when I need more sound I'll add a h pipe. I heard the outlaws are deep and throaty. This has been the hardest thing to choose for the car.

Like others have mentioned, watch and listen to videos. Your best bet is to go to meets and listen to them yourself in person. CJ Pony Parts website is also an excellent source, since he installs a lot of the exhausts and you can hear how they sound at start-up and driving.

Also, read the reviews on here. You get what you pay for, remember that!

HAHA you got it! I literally just installed them, x-pipes are in the garage lol. So its gonna be awhile. I ultimately want to go to quad tips but they're far too expensive right now.

gonna high jack this thread for one more post!

my GT is my DD and want an exhaust that doesn't keep me from using the phone or having a convo while driving with out having to compete with the exhaust. would you say that this is possible with roush? some say it's too loud but other say its just right.. what is you opinion?

Waiting on my car too and I agree most of what I've been hearing sounds like ass. So far, for the money I like the Lethal Performance resonator delete with the H-pipe. Other than that the Gibson catback sounds good, but it does have some drone from what I'm hearing from people.

I like the sound the SW the most but I don't want drone. Are you getting any drone?

It's not as bad as I assumed after reading some comments and reviews, there is a little bit of drone at 55-65 in 5th, take it into 6th and its almost nonexistent !
