Hi Everyone,

I recently added the MRB H-Pipe and the MagnaFlow competition Axle back to my 2018 GT. I love it, it has the deepest sound of any other I have heard, but with the convertible, my wife says it is too loud at cruising speeds under a mild load inside the cabin. I am going to need to find a different deep tone axle back that will not be so "present" inside under a mild load. It really gets you between 1700 and 2000 rpm. It sounds PERFECT outside the car and under all other circumstances.

This was an expensive system of course but I need to replace it. I am leaning toward the Borla S Type but are not sure. I appreciate any thoughts. Sadly, I am not made of money, so this has to really count....

I will just tell you. You need a mid car resonator. Time to ditch that h pipe. And that may appease the wife. Go back to stock suitcase or buy like a borla resonator midpipe. It ain't cheap but that's what you need. I suggest the stock piece in the middle.

Edit.
That noise you hear 1700-2200 is drone. My outlaw was so bad I went back to stock resonator to kill it. Car was much more enjoyable then. Same noise when you get on it though. Now that my car is actually "fast", I want it quiet. No need to draw attention to something like this.

The resonated midpipe will only dull the drone, won't eliminate it. You need an axleback that's designed to eliminate drone. Unfortunately, the magnaflow piping may or may not fit with others. In your situation, your best shot to try is the ARH axleback, IMO. The 3" Borla definitely won't meet up with out some custom piping, where the ARH just may. The ARH with the H pipe is known to be a fairly mild catback and doesn't drone.

Should be for stock 2.5" piping and/or neckdown since it's an axleback. Same for the resonator. It's designed to fit in an otherwise stock system.

Large pipe diameters need resonators. The longer the pipe run is without a dampening device the stronger the resonate frequency to the end. Larger diameter pipe gets a larger amplitude. If you want to keep the h-pipe add resonators to the legs after the h. It will not reduces the exhaust note but it will kill some of those resonate frequencies.

Edit.

Stock suitcase is designed to do both.

I would agree with points made here, if your H pipe is a catless setup, the wife might engine a catted H pipe a little bit more. Hit me up and I can see what I can do about getting you a great deal on one. The Borla setup also is a tad bit quieter than the Magnaflow comps as well. Lethalperformance.com

I still have my cats of course, the H-Pipe just removed the resonator. I am ONLY concerned with the in cabin resonance. The booming Drone if you will. i would THINK my setup with Borla S mufflers would be pretty much the same as the Borla S CAT back system. From what i read and see in video (CJ Pony) that setup is not a drone maker, but that may not be the case.... That is why i was hoping someone had the Borla S and either an H-Pipe or and X-Pipe...

The S type cat back has resonators before the exhaust to help out but those are tiny. you can imagine they wouldn't do much but obviously more than nothing. Another thing to note is location of the resonator. if it is placed that far back it cannot work for what you get in the cabin UPSTREAM from it. it only works downstream from it. In other words you are resonating the muffler assembly.

There is a video with the borla Atak muffler with the borla resonator upgrade on it (remove X pipe) it was completely different sounded tame in comparison.

For some reason, the borla resonator muffler says, "NOT recommended for use on convertibles"....

On a different note, Does anyone think changing to the Borla S Type and getting rid of the magnaflow competition will reduce my resonance. Yes i have an X-Pipe, buyt the Borla cat back changes out the factory resonator anyway and the S system cat back allegedly has very little drone....

Yes, the Borla S catback has a great tone and does not drone. You'll need to get the whole catback.

Out of curiosity, why would i need the entire cat back, I already have an H-Pipe.

The magnaflow piping will not meet up with the Borla piping, as I mentioned before.

I understand, but I was taking it to a shop - i figured they can make me custom pipes with their mandrel bender.

Yes, you could probably make that work and just get the 3" axleback.

S-types will not drone but will still be pretty loud when you're on it. It's my go-to setup and what I used until I went with a fender dump.
THANKS - this is exactly what I want. i don't want to lose the volume, just the drone. Man this exhaust stuff is getting expensive, I need to make this the LAST change!
