Hey all, Im looking for some opinions on tire sizing and type for my 2017 gt pp with a 1" suspension drop. I have a set of 19" wheels 10" wide with a +40mm offset. ive been looking at two tire sizes either a 285/35/19 michelin pilot sport 4s or 285/40/19 michelin pilot super sports. The 285/40/19s are closer to stock size (about 1% oversized) and im worried about rubbing. I've heard lots of people clear with no issues with the 285/35/19s but these are about 3% undersized. Ive also noticed, per tire rack, the tread width on the super sports are about one inch wider wich is great. I would very much like to go with the 285/40/19 as I think it will fill out the wheel well much better and not throw the speedo off as much. any input is greatly appreciated, I'm open to tire suggestions as well as im not looking forward to spending $340-$380 per tire.

How is the car used? Most common sizes for a 10" wheel are 285/35 or 275/40. For handling purposes you want the tread width to match or be about 0.5" narrower than the wheel width.

It's mainly street driven with some light track duty thrown in. I'm incredibly tired of losing traction with the stock perrelis so I want something sticky with good tread life. I was not aware of the tread width rule. I suppose it makes sense to prevent balooning.

I would go with the 285/35's, the 285/40 is 1.125" taller. I did have the 275/40 square set up on my pp1 for a while but just didnt like how the taller tire looked up front.

My track setup NT-01's in 285/35-19 rub with 19x10 +40 wheels. A small (3 or 5mm spacer) will fix it. It seems like you have about a 50/50 chance of 285/35's rubbing depending on how wide that particular tire model runs with +40 (why +35 offset has become popular for the Mustang). If you run taller 285/40 (if you can find any), that will just make things worse.

Thanks for all the help guys. Looks like it's not worth it to go with the taller tire.
