Hey everyone, I hope you are having a blessed 2025.

I have owned my 2019 GT 10 speed since 2021. It is stock minus CAI, Corsa cat back and a PBD Dyno tune. Car runs healthy and great minus the issue I am about to describe

I have read a lot of the threads here regarding the potential issues but i have yet to find one that matches my problem.

While shifting when the 10R80 is not up to operating temperature it makes a metal / whining noise. This only happens when not at operating temp and goes away when the transmission is operating temperature. I believe I was able to narrow it down to transmission since it happens regardless if the engine is at temperature or not.

I don’t feel any noticeable hard shifts or anything else but the sound is quite annoying and I’m worried if left unchecked it can become a greater problem.

I read in the forum that the oil pump gears make noise however this started happening recently, last couple of months and wayyy after the tune (2 years later).

I had my mechanic do an inspection and he couldn’t find anything lose, he swapped the transmission fluid as he mentioned it was very dirty. But no full trans tear down done to this point.

I will try to post a clip of the noise as soon as possible since none of the other clips I’ve seen here matches it.

Opinions, thoughts, recommendations etc really appreciated.

PS I was looking into some of the Sun Coast products but unsure if any of them would actually fix my issue.

thank you all

Any change or difference heard after changing the transmission fluid?

Hmm. If the sound only happens when cold, then it should be something that is not getting enough fluid, lubrication, etc.
Have you checked the differential fluid? Worth a shot.
When was the last time you changed and/or checked it?
There are gears in there that can cause a whining noise if the fluid is low.

Haven’t really checked the diff fluid I’ll give it a go when I’m back home. One thing though is I can trace the noise to the exact moments it shifts. Like if I play with the paddle shifters while driving I can get the noise to occur before trans is at operating temp

My impression is you did really good at getting 59,000 miles out of a 10r80 transmission. I got 9000 miles out of mine. Fortunately Ford did give me a brand new transmission under warranty.
Now that I have the new transmission, I’m trying to figure out how to make it last and who I should either buy a secondary transmission from to have it waiting for when this one dies, or who is a good place to have them rebuild my transmission.
i’ve talked to some transmission specialist and they say in about two more years aftermarket and Ford should have the transmission figured out and the proper parts/components to build a proper transmission with.
