Navigation?

Does the My Ford Touch on the GT Premium come with navigation included? Or do you only get navigation if you add on the voice activated navigation package?

The build and price makes it seem like the voice navigation package only adds on Sirius XM traffic and stuff.

The MFT system that comes with the GT Premium does not include navigation. The option for adding the Voice Activated Navigation is what adds it to MFT.

Correct it is a $750 option to add Navigation, totally worth it if you ask me.

+1 totally worth it. It adds lots of cool features, and it is way better than using a phone. Have it on my wife's fusion and it is awesome.

The way it was explained to me when I was looking at the Focus ST, is that MFT comes with a feature called turn by turn directions. This allows you to input a destination and get directions displayed in text on the MFT screen. This is not quite the same as navigation, where the maps and tracking are built in and you can search for points of interest and such. However, if the simple directions are all you are looking for, you may be happy with the MFT without the nav. This is not gospel, it is what was explained to me by a sales guy, so take it with a grain of salt. I have not independently verified the claim.

Sync's "Direction&Destination" is actually free for 3 years on vehicles with MFT.

Having used the MFT since day one, I wish it was more reliable than it is. Dont get me wrong its a great system when it works, but it's still a buggy system with lots of issues that work is trying to fix, while theyre replacing it going from Microsoft to Blackberry. Wish they would have chosen to go with Apple instead of Blackberry though. :shrug:

no! If you get the Navigation system, there is no charge for it.

If you use the Sync Direction services (without having to pay the $800 Nav), you get it free 3 years.

No.

The payment service is just for Sync Services -- which gives you mapless turn-by-turn directions and which, frankly, I've never really found to be particularly useful.

The actual navigation system is there forever and you're fine. The only thing that you'll have to start paying for eventually -- I think five free years are included? -- is the Sirius satellite real-time traffic information.

The navigation system gives you regular navigation like you'd have on any device or any other navigation system in any car.

SYNC Services -- which I believe you only get for one year, not three, but I could be wrong -- is not that at all. Here's what happens with SYNC services: You make a telephone call over your connected phone to the SYNC hotline number. You speak an address. It calculates a route to that address based on your location, and downloads that to your SYNC system. Then you hang up the phone.

SYNC now has a list of discreet turn-by-turn directions that will get you from where you are to where you're going. But there's no map, or anything like that -- you'll just see on your screen "In two miles turn left on Main Street" and then you turn left and it'll say "in three quarters of a mile turn right on Maple Street."

And I'm pretty sure that if you go off route at all, you have to re-phone SYNC Services and ask it for a new set of directions, which it then has to re-download.

Fun fact: The download of information from SYNC services comes via audio modem, just like regular dialup connections used to, but over your cell phone audio.

In my experience, it's a useless feature. I tried it twice and then never again.

And it does correct it if you go off route.
plus you can send directions to your Sync from Mapquest or GoogleMaps.

For a FREE service, its not that bad at all.
