So a little background. I went to my dealer a week ago to get the paperwork started on my car that decided to not show up. My dealer quoted me Ford Credit at 2.9 (I assume FC, didn't specify) of course this was after I told them I already had 1.49.

So my Salesman calls me this morning to let me know my car should be at the dealer early this week, it finally arrived in Mass after about 2 weeks stuck in NY. I head to the bank where they advertise 1.49 on auto loans. I had done a pre-approval online months ago.

I go in sit down and wait, and wait, it's closing time, branch manager grabs me and brings me in her office. We start talking, getting me set up to join (It's a credit union) does all that and we start on the loan. Starts asking me about the car. I tell her what I'm getting, how long I've waited etc. She stops, turns to me, smiles, say's those cars a beautiful, worth the wait. Second question: Is it a manual? At this point I realize I just stumbled into the office of a car nut. She goes on to tell me how her X owned a GT350H, how they used to show it etc. Before the kids came she used to drive a Vette ('70's) now she drives a BMW. We discussed how both our families almost always owned Ford products over the years, she was a big fan of them. We discussed having to sit and stare at it until the snow melts, she's like oh just go out and rub on it

This story has no point but I thought it was kind of cool that I get the car nut as my loan officer (who also runs the Branch) a random branch I chose out of the blue.

I will add that this local (regional) CU may be the easiest place I have ever done business with. I have had much more difficultly (and more invasive) purchasing a humidifier from Sears than opening a Checking/Saving/Auto Loan at this place. Once I get a final P&S from my dealer I walk in there, they cut me a check and I continue to the dealer to drive my car home. Hopefully Tuesday/Wed this week. Running the numbers, 1.49% is literally free money, no one in the area touches them.

The only requirement was that She required me to bring the car by so She could check it out. :headbang:

I'm married to one. She's my Pit strategist on race days :) She changes tires, oil all by herself. She actually prevented me from putting a C5 transmission together the second time incorrectly in a T-Bird. My biggest fear is leaving my car when I'm out of town and having to send bail money to her ;)

Didn't have quite the gear head experience you had with your credit union but I had a great hassle free experience with USAA

This is why I will never go back to a bank after belonging to a credit union. Banks have the advantage of having branches inside of stores and things, but credit unions are there to serve you and never try to screw you with excessive fees and the like.

Thats a sick rate man, congrats on the car and the free money. My rate was from a CU as well, local branch in my area. I got a 2.49 though, still better than Ford or any other bank in the area, I guess zip codes make the big difference as well.

Yeah, funny thing, once they knew I was going to bring in a check the Ford Credit rate quickly dropped to 2.49%. F&I is the only place left that allows any profit since the internet destroyed any profit in selling cars. I used to make a living from it, understand it and do not hold the dealer to blame, they are in business to make a profit.

My CU is kind of the whore in the area, no one will touch them. We will likely mortgage through them next year as well. More free money.

Sounds like you had a pretty good deal..... I got mine at 1.88% at 75month with a 7 year/80k mile extended warranty... actually beat my FCU of 2.49 for 70mo and also 1.99 for a 60....Could not pass it up along with the lower payment....wasnt much but it was a little lower
