Hi Gibbo

Only had a couple of short journeys but on a long one later today.

It 'feels' better at the front. I have more feel through the steering wheel and I like that. It does feel a little more lumpy but again I dont mind.

I will give more feedback after the long run today

Stunning :headbang:

If......IF Ford come out with a Mach 1 for the '18/'19MYs, I reckon it'd look much like this, externally anyway.

Shucks guys, thanks for the comments

However, I have been brought down to earth a bit after the joy of my new wheels...dont worry, I haven't crashed or anything but things are not 100% right.

Soa few people have asked how the car runs on the 20" alloys and the low profiles. Now I have driven a long journey to Hayes and back, I can tell you what I think.

A roads and B roads

Absolutely fine. Yeh, the car feels the bumps a bit more no doubt but I can live with that, I have always like a hard ride and this feels great.

There is more feel through the steering wheel than before and again, that is an improvement for me and was something I felt was missing before.

Motorway
Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear!
First I notice a pretty horrible wheel wobble/shudder at around 70. Hopefully just means one of the wheels isnt balanced right. Pretty unusual as I have used the same fitters for years and they have never got it wrong before.

But its more than just that, there is a vibration going on as well. And you can feel it through the seat as well as the steering wheel. Its pretty horrid. It like am am running on solid tyres!

And then I hit the poxy horrible concrete section on the M25. The noise was horrific. Much worse then the car was before the new wheels. Pretty unbearable above 60 to be frank!

I was driving up to Hayes thinking, thank god this isnt the begining of a trip to Scotland or something!

So, right now I am feeling a bit pissed off. Yeh I am sure I can get the wobble fixed but I am not so sure about the general vibration and the horrific noise on the concrete road!

Wobble sounds like a balancing issue.

Increased road noise is an annoying side effect of looking badass I'm afraid, although I think a japanese maglev train would suffer with road noise around that section of the M25.

Yeah, that bit of the M25 with the concrete is horrible! I'd imagine a Bentley's tyres would be loud there, too.

Certainly some tyres are a lot louder than others. I recall a good few years ago I took a lot of convincing that the tyres on my old 300zx were causing a noise that I thought was a bad wheel bearing. Swapped tires and it was almost night n day!

Hopefully a wheel balance will sort the vibration. Sounds silly.....but are those directional tyres? If so, ensure they've mounted them correctly....I've seen that done wrong before, too!

Hopefully that's just a balance issue. If the rear wheels are out of balance then that will cause a vibration though the floor, obviously the front out of balance you'll feel through the steering.

Hopefully just a wheel balance issue. As for the tyre noise, yes some tyres are really bad than others, so maybe worth checking the Db levels of the tyres you have used, compared with the MPSS you used to run. I used to venture on the concrete part of the M25 a lot in my old 172 with R888s fitted...I felt like I had a swarm of bees around me the whole time!!

Stark The tyres are MPSS, thats why I am so surprised at the noise as when I put the MPSS tyres on the 19" wheels it was a massive improvement from PZeros. I have gone from 19" wheels with MPSS being fine to 20" tyres with MPSS being terrible.

And I really do mean terrible, I had to drive at 60 as 70 is just horrid.

Yes djone101 I will get the balancing check and try again. It may wind its way up to you otherwise!!

What about alignment? Should I have had the 4 wheel alignment done having done away with spacers etc and if it is out, could it cause the noise to be worse.?

You may find that even if it is the same tyre but different size, the noise rating can change quite a bit due to the structure of the tyre. Have you had a check on the US part to see what the guys say about running 20s over there?

My MPSS are noisy on concrete but not unbearable, but then I have a fair bit more side wall than you.

The M3 is noisy as well. Rough concrete is just well, noisy..

the solution is an even louder exhaust !
