Hey guys,

I've had my 2016 Mustang GT (auto) for just over a year now and it's been an absolute blast.

My only issue has been that when in 1st gear (in paddle mode) and accelerating from still, if it get it to 3-4k revs and then try to keep a steady speed, the car will start to jerk/jolt - it starts to jump up and down by about 300rpm repetitively and that's enough to throw me back and forth into my seat. Normally I'll have to take my foot off the accelerator completely or go into 2nd to get out of the jolting rhythm.

It doesn't happen all the time, but often enough to make me query whether this is normal - just checking if anyone else has had this issue.

Thanks

This happens to me sometimes. I'm not sure if I'm just not keeping my foot steady or what. It only happens if I have it in sport mode. I think it just has to do with the throttle response being very sensitive. I only notice it happening if I'm not actively accelerating. I just start to take my foot off the gas to make a turn, and then as I ease back on it feels sort of jerky.

Nah - completely stock

Yeah that sounds pretty similar to what's happening - happened coming out of a turn last time as well which is what prompted me to post

Auto or manual, first gear will be jerky sometimes. Supposed to get out of first gear and roll about in 2nd if you're not going fast.

My manual likes to buck in the lower gears. Nothing crazy, but it's not as smooth as other cars.

That being said, these are performance cars. Can't expect a luxurious ride. Yee haw!

If you are not accelerating, shift. This is a pilot induced oscillation. At low speed where there is a lot of torque available in a low gear, letting off the gas results in deceleration. That deceleration and associated inertia results in the driver being thrown forward relative to the car, which results in pressing the gas pedal, which results in acceleration, driver is thrown back, and letting off on the gas pedal, resulting in deceleration.
