I have a pp2 mustang That I recently changed just one tire on the rear driver side due to a nail punctured near the tire wall. The other rear passenger tire is about 5 months old. Any more, when I drive the car it tends to veer left and right like it is unstable and gets a little worse as I pick up speed. I got an alignment about a month a half ago. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT MIGHT CAUSE THAT?

What you described is tramlining
Cars with very wide and sticky tires have a tendency to do that

If this behavior started with the tire replacement it more likely to be a balance issue. It could also be a bad tire. It happens. Try rotating the rear tires and see what happens.

Check tire pressure lately? Is new tire the EXACT SAME as the other rear? Sometimes just because a tire seems the same it's a different model. As in made to Ford spec, or Audi, or Porsche so it's possible the place didn't get the exact correct Ford PP2 tire.

It's either the alignment or difference in tread height between both rear tires. I had to happen to me when I caught a nail in a PS4S, there was measurable difference in tread height between both rear tires, alignment was good (toe was equal between both wheels). It clearly steered to the side on the throttle.

This. Unless you see thats its the wrong spec tire. All depending on how much your other tire is worn. Sadly with Performance vehicles or 4WD vehicles you often get stuck replacing multiple tires because you lose one and it has an adverse effect on vehicle function or handling.

I understand, but the rear end didn’t behave like it’s unstable especially during acceleration. About a month ago I got my alignment done at Steeda in Valdosta and the alignment should be good. This rear end behavior started right after the new tire was installed. I also know of the 305 tire tram lining on un-even roads, but this feeling is different though. I was wondering if there is some kind of adjustment I need to do due to the new tire installation.

thanks,
Rudy

Again - it's the heigh difference in the tread between the tires. There is nothing you can other than shave the new tire down.

you are 100% correct. I hate this feeling, it’s like the car is un-controllable while driving. Well, it appears like I am going to have to buy another tire. Wish there was a way to fix this issue since the other tire is about 5 months old and looks good.

Thank you so much,
Rudy

It was hard for me to believe that this would have such a noticeable effect so went for alignment first - cross toe was dead zero (within tolerance of a Hunter rack) and it was still happening, ended measuring tread depth with caliper (don't remember the difference at the moment).
I lived with it but if I had to do again, I wouldn't. If you have a square fitment, mounting these tires on the front would probably not be as noticeable (I think PP2 has different wheels between front and rear but tires might be same size ? in that case it would require re-mounting).

Yes, the PP2 does run a square setup. Tire Rack does, in fact show two different Cup 2 tires so having two different ones could make a difference.

It's not about two different specs (which could be different and Michelin is notorious from having a bunch of different OEM spec tires) but just purely wear on the tire that stays and no wear on brand new that replaces the damaged one - that where the tread depth / height / whatever you call it difference comes from.
