Ive got a gen3 coyote ess kit, it currently runs the stock tube with filter to the lower bumper area.
Ive seen a few setups running a smaller filter directly on the supercharger, do any fit our ess and if so which one?
Does it increase or decrease flow/hp?

Leave the stock tube and filter on. A small filter directly on the blower is a great way to increase IAT’s and decrease power.

Is that tested?
Im not sure if the small filter is enough airflow vs the bend in the stock tube but i know a snorkel + oem cold air intake track gives alot of cold air.

Ive seen a few prochargers do the small filter as well as my buddy is trying a small filter on his ess but im not sure if its better

Yes it has been tested, this topic has been beaten to death on the FB pages as well. The ESS intake and K&N filter RE-0870 is the most efficient filtered setup and is not a restriction. Putting a small filter directly on the inlet of the blower is going to increase IAT’s and decrease the filters surface area. You can make 4 digit power on the factory intake and filter.

I lost .15 and 2.5mph with a filter on the end versus the factory elbow and airbox with k&n filter. Took the elbow off and Picked up .2 and 3mph. Put the inlet bell on and it was minimal, like .03 and .5 mph. That was with the 3.6 pulley on a Vortech V3Jt

On the dyno with my new engine and a 3.3 pulley, the stock airbox made 88hp less than open blower. I forgot to bring the bellmouth with me, so I don't know how much horsepower difference there is with bellmouth versus no bellmouth with the smaller pulley.

Vortech is a bit different as the blower sits more on the middle, ess and procharger sit right in front of the stock airboxes air ducting for cold air. I know no filter is best but i daily so i need a filter, was just playing with the idea of the filter on the supercharger for noise and effeciency but i dont believe the filter can be big enough to be better than the stock bent tubing

I drive around with my stock airbox. More than enough power for the street. I even leave it on when I race Buttonwillow or Willow Springs, just in case I end up off the track. Lol
Unless you're really worried about racing the car light to light just put the filter right on the end. I used a vibrant one

I was honestly thinking the same, the sound can be worth the hp loss in my application
Ima look into what space i have vs what my biggest filter option is
