MT82 and power level limits

hey guys, i'm getting the street fighter exhaust , CAI and tune from CTB in auckland with a claimed power increase from 306 to 400 Kw. any problems with the MT? thanks, tom

You won't have an issue with this power level especially as this is at the engine. At the wheels you will be around 290kw. There are some cars running 500kw on a stock trans

Tom, I don't want to pour cold water on your dream, BUT 400 KW is a very long way from the stock 306. A cat back and tune aint gonna do it. Somebody is having somebody on, or they have a "Tuned" dyno. Please don't shoot the messenger, just call Pony Parts or someone like them, and ask for advice before you spend your money.

Hi African, it's not a cat back it's long tube headers, cai and tune. Go to CTB web site in auckland or team Hutchinson Ford Christ church mustang upgrade packages to see what I'm talking about. Tom

Hi Guys, My car is at CTB presently, as I've gone down this route, referred to as Stage 2 Plus (Team Hutchinson Ford Mustang Upgrades). I've chosen this upgrade pre delivery as i'm after a louder exhaust note than stock without any guaranteed drone, and with power gains being a real bonus. Anyway, once I have the dyno sheet I'll post up, fingers crossed within the next two weeks.

Hi sturty. The company that does it has the sole franchise in New Zealand for Ford racing products, Hennessy, roush and street fighter for the new mustang. He's been involved in racing for Ford and Holden for years and has a huge business here. I don't think he'd risk lying about his services with the millions of dollars at stake. On the Australian forum while discussing the street fighter full exhaust and tune, etc. 396 kw is generally quoted. This is off the crank. Should expect 280 or so whp. Tom

This is one of the issues when some people use an estimate crank figure, the only way you can get a true figure is to take the engine out.

You should be looking at between 285-295rwkw with full exhaust and tune (a few cars are running this combo). After you take into account drive train loss which on a manual is about 18% you are probably around the 350kw at the crank.

400kw at the engine is pretty generous to be honest, but honestly power figures are meaningless and a bit of a circle jerk. It's more how the car feels and how stable it is. You will definitely notice a difference from stock and it will sound a lot better. That amount of power will make your tyres feel worse.

So up to you mate, it will make your car feel better, it probably won't be as strong as what they say though.

thanks mate, i understand what you're saying about the measurements and the intrinsic variables there. i drove my friends here in NZ , also on the forum, POJ, who had a tune and FRPP touring cat back and lowering springs from the same mob and it seemed to breath a lot better and felt more planted. so i thought id go one step further and get the SF headers ( as they sounded awesome) and FRPP track handling pack. due to be installed nov 8. going down the rabbit hole , but the whole thing has a 3 year / 100,000 k warranty. cheers for your comments, tom
