Should my mpg continue to go down from idling? Cuz that's what happens when I idle

Yes. When you are idling at a stop, you are getting 0 MPG. When you average 0 into any calculation, it will bring it down. Think about it - your engine is running, but you are going nowhere. Therefore, for every gallon of fuel it burns, you go 0 miles. That equals 0 MPG.

You definitely have a point there. Gas is cheap as hell nowadays and on top of that I don't need premium gas, so I guess it even benefits me a little more

make a 20 mile highway run. reset the trip computer first and then monitor the MPG. My car averages just above 25 mpg, exactly as advertised. 6th gear, 70mph, 2000 rpm. I would imagine yours should be closer to 30.

If I have to stop and idle at lights, or run the engine more than 3000 RPMs, it starts dropping fast.

Yeah I'm not gonna do much driving today, but I'll reset tomorrow and let you guys know how it's lookin. Checked tires earlier, they're at 35-37psi

Could very well be winter gas, forgot about that.. I've noticed a sharp decrease in my EB, used to be at 19-20 city with some hard driving, no problem. Now I'm at about 16 with less hard driving.

Tried to see just how much MPG I could get out of my little Cyclone Stang vert last weekend...reset screen, running 5-20 RP full synthetic, half-tank of 93 gas, and 60* ambient temperature...drove normally(2,000-4,000rpms)...after 500 miles...30.4MPG. Pretty good I'd say.

These new Mustang engines do not need a lot of "breaking in" IMO. But I would suggest that you let the engine drop from it's fast rpm start mode to it's normal idle rpm before you get on it. It should only take 30 seconds or so when you first start it up. I believe once the engine warms up and the fluids reach operating temperature, your safe to push it. The majority of normal engine wear occurs when the engine is started "cold" and that's because there's no oil on the internals yet.

Again, seems low for a V6. My GT even after some 40-100mph pulls still maintained the average 20 mpg mark.

that MPG sucks, My worse is 21 and I drive less then 6 miles at a time in most tanks. Normal avg is 25.3 and over 30 going 70. Check all incoming air connections. Might have a bad spark plug gab or spark plug also

I doubt there would be an engine problem / spark plugs, etc without setting off a Check Engine Light. Might be something dragging on the drive train. A highway run should sniff that out. V6 is advertising 28mpg on the highway.

spark plugs are known to be bad from the factory on the ecoboost at least. Wouldnt be the first time,

is it possible to have a bad plug and not set off the Check Engine?

in any case, a highway run is a good test. See if the car makes 28mpg +/- 1mpg. Until then we are speculating.

A lot of guys on the EB forum say: "I drive my car hard and I average 23mpg still"

I'd like to know what exactly is their definition of "hard"

I've had the car for about 3 weeks now and have just been experiencing terrible mpg. Currently I'm at 15.4, mostly city but I do have a 50 mile highway trip factored into that. Checking through the forums, there's GT's getting better:tsk:
I know I'm not heavy footed, so it's not me. Do I have to break the engine in more?(currently at 330miles). Are there problems I should check for??

10.2? Is this data confirmed by stops at the gas station? I don't know much about EB, but I am guessing if you are regularly engaging the turbo, you will draw near as much fuel as a 5.0. But unless you are coming off stop lights floored, you should top 20mpg city. That's the whole point of EB. Whats highway mpg?
