Rule #1 of selling a product:

Never let hype take over if you don't have a game changer. Only when you do, is it appropriate to take the market by storm.

Pissed off at Motor Trend because they didn't say what your fanboy ass wanted them to say. Makes a lot of sense. They do the best objective testing.

When someone says this manufacturer's car outperformed that manufacturer's car, they are talking about stock directly from the manufacturer. Pulling at strings here.

As I do agree with you, as a performance enthusiast, just mod it and you will win...but an everyday buyer that is looking for a "fast car" is going to look at
1. Horsepower
2. 1/4 mile times
3. Handling reviews
......they will then compare that car to other cars and ultimately pick the highest rated stat car.

Mustang has the HP but not the 1/4 times to back it up. So it will be a toss up.
Hmmmm, an everyday buyer wanting a fast car can buy a smart car. Fast is relative to your purpose. Anyone who buys this car or any other, based on performance stats is just plain nuts. I've seen the comments of two noted drift car professionals, how the car feels to them is way different than how it feels to me. If I drove like them, I'd really care what they can do with the car. I don't give a rats tooty what John or Ashley Force can do with it either, they are in a different league. I only care what I can do with the car and you should only care about what you can do. I hate Camaros, not because they perform bad or look bad. I just can't drive one the way I can a Mustang. Too me they are uncomfortable and I feel like I'm in a video game. Anyone who buys a Mustang for performance without driving a GT or SVT Mustang first is taking a large risk of not liking the car. I bought the pretty one so if I don't like driving it, at least it will look good in my garage. I doubt I won't like it :D, but none of us will know what we like until we drive it.

If this was the case then the mustang should have outsold the camaro due to its handling reviews and 1/4 mile times. It's not the case though. It's about looks and comfort and quality, which the new mustang is far above any of the competition in its class.

Eh, I guess I'm cynical but once I saw the 1LE best the Boss 302 it seemed clear to me that Ford wasn't interested in selling us an A+ product, they apparently thought a B product was good enough. Camaro did a better job with a heavier car for around 6k less.

I hope we don't see Ford return to the 90's where the Camaro was just a better performer overall.
the 1LE beats the boss simply due to tire, just like the z28. It really isnt a fair comparison to put the regular GT agaisnt the 1LE.

Props to chevy for having the balls to put big tires on the 1le and z28, but that doesnt make it apples to apples

It's gonna be my first Mustang so don't care. If in three years they launch a refresh with more power then I will simply trade the 2015 for it. I will get my 2015 no questions asked!!!

On the flip side, if the GT+PP falls short of the 1LE because of tires, then shame on Ford for not including bigger ones with that package. They knew exactly what they were up against. If they chose not to answer, that's a bit disappointing. I guess we'll see.

Im saying stock for stock. A tune on that car will do the same. Sorry to nit pick you, but stock for stock is what it is. Once mods start open up your wallet to win.

My point is stock this car may be slower or equal in a straight line. I was hoping it would be quicker in stock form.

Ive modded my last 2 Stangs and this one will be no different, but it seems like I buy Mustangs at the wrong time. I bought a 94 GT that was trounced not only by previous Fox bodied Mustangs but was humiliated by the LT1.
I bought a 05 GT that had no Camaro to go up against but got beat on by a 400hp GTO. And while the 15 GT will hold its own against the Camaro, it might not against the 11-14s. And when the new LT1 Camaro comes out the 15 GT stock is most likely gonna get beat in a straight line.

I love Mustangs but I will not give credit when it is not deserved.

Overall yes I do give credit for the entire package. The IRS is what did it for me. Im just disappointed in the straight line performance.
well said my man. I love all mustang and I can build this one where (I) need it to be, but like Campo once said in MM&FF
"We're out here fighting the good-fight and could use a little help from Ford, don't kill the messenger".

This should end any confusion about the cheaper Camaro 1LE.
The confusion is on your end, I assure you.

The price comparison was between a Boss 302 and a Camaro SS 1LE, which I stated was a difference of around 6k. I was pulling that number from memory but decided to do some research into it and I was pretty spot on...

"Adding the 1LE Performance Package tacks just $3,500 on to the Camaro SS’s base price of $33,535 for a total of $37,035, which just happens to undercut the BOSS 302 by almost 6-grand."

http://www.motorweek.org/reviews/road_tests/2013_chevrolet_camaro_1le

I was not speaking of stock cars at the track, people that take their cars to the track typically modify them.
Well we weren't. Talking about which cars are faster modified is just plain silly. With enough money you'll beat your competition and trying to make comparisons is apples to oranges. We're talking about stock vs stock and the Camaros dominated the 90's. This is something I don't want to see happen again and if Chevy puts out another quality car like the 1LE for the Alpha platform Camaro you're likely to see that again.

Tim Hilliard said:
Maybe it was a New England thing but the Camaros were a joke....maybe that's why they stopped building them
The Camaros just weren't as popular, Mustang had a thick following back then. Now sale numbers are slipping and Ford won't outsell the Camaro just because there is a horse emblem on their pony car. They can't lean on a large loyal fanbase, they need to put out a competiting product.

Please post this 1LE Boss 302 comparision you keep referring to. I have never seen it. I have seen a 1LE Mustang TP test but not the one you are referring.
Here is a teaser (and this is the Boss 302LS):

http://gmauthority.com/blog/2012/07...boss-302s-vir-lap-time-by-4-46-seconds-video/

I'm sure you can find a more indepth comparison. But that's the issue, a car that costs 6k cheaper (about 15%) and which weighs more completely kills the Boss 302 at the track. And it does the same thing to the Boss 302LS, which is even lighter and more expensive.

Tim Hilliard said:
IDC to be honest, the Boss is old news and I'm not buying one because they cost more used than my new 2015 and I'm not over paying for history.
It absolultely is old news, it was old news once the 1LE came out two years ago. The Boss 302 shouldn't be what Ford is chasing, Chevy already beat it. Ford needs to shoot for the 1LE because they're about to be two steps behind once the Alpha platform Camaro comes out assuming the S550 GT PP cannot beat the 1LE in the twisties.

I remember being very interested in the 2010 refresh for the s197, but at the same time being disappointed when it came out because it did not offer much more performance over the older s197.

Then came the 2010 Camaro SS... and ford manifested the 5.0 engine out of thin air and put it in the GT as we know it today (in some variation or another).

Maybe ford is pulling a punch here to focus on going global and also to anticipate the next gen Camaro? Who knows... only time will tell. But I will guess they have another trick up their sleeve just like when they switched suddenly to the 5.0 from the 4.6 in the 2010 - 2011 years.

what do you guys think? wishful thinking?

I think you're spot on. I believe Ford decided to hold some tricks back rather than show the full hand. I'm basing this on conversations last year with Ford engineers and what was reviewed today, so pure conjecture but one I feel confident making.

I only care what I can do with the car and you should only care about what you can do.
And you can do more with a car that has a higher performance ceiling, which in this case is the 1LE (when compared to the S197 GT PP, Boss 302, and even Boss 302LS). That's why its important. It doesn't matter if you can't pull the times the experts do, you're still likely to still pull better times with a 1LE than with a S197 GT PP, Boss 302, or Boss 302LS simply because it has a higher performance ceiling.

I'm sorry I was confused. Thank you for the article, never saw that. I was confused as to why there would be magazine cmparisions between the Boss and then the 'lesser' GT PP vs. 1LE  My other confusion came when you brought up the Boss 302 in the first place on a thread about the 2015 GT talking about how much cheaper the 1LE is. I apologize for the confusion and misreading your post.

I read the article and had to laugh that they would prefer the Boss in their driveway because it's just more enjoyable (fun). I loved the 1LE and still want one and there are zero driving around New England. But when I drove the '14 TP GT I had more fun. The Camaro was so good it's almost boring.

I think Ford might know the market better than what we on the forum thinks it is. As stated in the article. It ain't about the numbers, it's about the experience.

When I tried to buy my '14 GT TP, I bought it with the full intention of dropping $7K in suspension and tires into it, which was the current price delta between the '14 I was buying and the 1LE I almost ordered. Now I just need some tires and maybe wheels...and exhaust :p
