Hi friends have a question? I cant get 93 octane anywhere near my home only 91octane fuel. If i do a tune i would like to get a 93octane tune also cause i know it can get more power. The thing is that most octane booster have mmt and the owners manual says i need to avoid fuels containing mmt.

Why is that? What does mmt do to our cars? Have had other brands like m3 and evos have used nos octane boosters which increase octane but contain mmt and the owners manual doesnt say nothing in those other cars and have used them with any trouble. But in the mustang i dont want to use it cause of what the manual says. So what does mmt do in our cars? Thanks.

FWIW I have used the Lucas booster with success on an aggressive 93 tune with my BMW 135i. Half a bottle per tank and you can buy it by the case pretty cheap on Amazon. We are finally getting some 93 back in Maine so the Mustang doesn't need booster!

It is a little more than covering their asses. If you google "MMT and catalytic converters" you will find there are potential issues. Below is from a site where someone had a very large gas tank and was asking about MMT concentrations.

Very high concentrations of MMT are incompatible with “active” surfaces. When used as directed, the street-legal quantity in our Octane Booster Fuel Treatment (part #1512) does not present a problem, even with continuous use. However, the concentration in MMT+ Octane Booster (part #1516) is substantially higher. If not diluted enough in gasoline, the metallic component in the product can eventually build up on oxygen sensors and catalytic converter(s), potentially causing erroneous readings and catalyst fouling.

Your gas tank is fairly large compared to the average automobile. It is possible that you might be able to “get away” with using a full can of 1516 per fill up for quite some time—maybe a couple years worth of average driving—without having any fouling problems. Eventually, though, you will likely have to replace your oxygen sensors, catalytic converter(s), and maybe even spark plugs.

I know plenty of people running octanium or torco for long periods of time with no issues.

My question is, are you REALLY going to notice a difference with a 91 vs. 93 tune? Really?

If you're boosted, yes. N/A, not much unless you've got some serious mods.

Even boosted I feel like it'd come down to driver if this were a drag strip comparison - all else being equal. Maybe I'm just too risk averse (and/or lazy) to add additives for an extra couple octanes.

With the shitty 91 we get here in CA, the added timing from running octanium/torco is good for 20-30whp and tq on a boosted motor, and needed to combat detonation when you increase boost levels.

Pretty much. At least when I was NA I could get E85 by work and on my way home. Now I need a return system if I want to go back to E85. It's neverending I swear.

I bought the same lucas octane booster its cheap and the car feels much better. Throttle response and acceleration much faster.

http://race-gas.com ... race gas concentrate. Mix with regular pump gas to get desired octane. I haven't tried it, but, i've been looking into it as an option.

Take a look at ACES IV. I haven't tried it but sounds like good stuff. 1 oz. to every 6 gallons of fuel will bump 89 octane up to 98 and 93 up to 102.
