Mixed fuels yesterday

Yesterday i had to get gas for my car. There is a station near me that sells 100 octane race fuel. After doing some reading on how to mix octanes to get to 93 (we only have 91 in california) i decided to give it a shot.

My tank was down to about 20 miles to empty (i would assume thats about two gallons left) so i put in 1.5 gallons of 100 and filled the rest up with 91 (about 12.2 gallons) I'm hoping its around 93 or close to there.

After that i decided to take the long way home.

WOW is all i can say. The car definitely had more power and felt smoother in power delivery. The car never felt this good in HI despite using 92 octane but then again, the ambient air temp was not in the high 60's/low 70's like it is here. It felt like it idled smoother and throttle response was sharper. May not do this again for a very long while as 100 was quite expensive ($9.99 a gallon :eye bulge But i am going on a road trip in march to San Francisco and if i don't have a tune by then ill be doing the 100 octane mixing thing again.

Just to clarify, this is the most powerful car I've ever owned and my 1st turbo car so if my observations seem noob-ish thats why. lol

Lol u should feel this car tuned on 93!

I have a 91 tune also and it still feels entirely different so 93 isn't really a necessity for every day driving

Yeah of course. Its way too expensive to do that every fill up (last time i filled up was about three weeks ago because I hardly drive it) so as soon as i get my AccessPort ill get a 91 tune from Adam and i won't need to mix fuels.

How much is 91 octane over there?

It's about 2.80/gal for 93 over here

It's like $4 for 93 here, when you can find it, 2.50 for 91 and 1.89 for E85.

Honestly it's so shitty that I live in one of the hot spots of the oil/gas/energy sector and we have crap fuel. We get plenty of earthquakes from fracking, a million rough necks running around, and the centerpiece of OKC is a massive oil/gas/energy skyscraper.. I say we replace the Wal-Marts with refineries and get it done.

lol that's crazy ours hasn't been that high since 2012. My gf fills her dart up with 87 for $2.10/gal

I guess that's the consolation for living in Philly's bumhole

We have relatively cheap "mid grades". 98% of the pumps only have 87,89,91.

There has been an awakening of E85 however, and for that I am excited. Got a new pump going in a block from work. Thought about lobbying to have one put in down the street from my house, lol.

I paid $3.45 for 91 yesterday. I've seen some places as cheap as 3.09

This station was on Pico. Near me in Santa Monica its about $3.29. Where are you finding these cheap prices?

Bell Gardens/Cudahy/Downey/Whittier/SFS on my drive to work. Commerce, Vernon, etc surrounding area is the same.

OK, I'm sorry, when I looked it up I was choosing 87 in my area, the correct prices around there for 91 is $2.6x! Costco is also 2.63-2.67 around me.

Jesus Christ! These prices! I never thought I would be glad to live in OH. 87 is $1.59 and 93 is $2.09 around here.

Next time I head to Irwindale might throw in some 100 to see if it improves my times.
