I definitely say keep the Mach 1. You can make a Mach 1 STUPID fast with a few bolt ons and a tune. And still be pretty reliable. ESS is a very economical way to boost, and it works... Plus the Tremec is solid if its a manual...
Thanks, I’ve already decided to keep the car. Since it’s your advice what do you think about a Wengerd tune to start. Then possibly long tube headers down the road. I’m not going to supercharge.

I love wengerd tune. Minimal gains, but drivability improvements are good especially with the 10 speed... LTH are kind of a waste unless you want noise or you are gonna do boost... Minimal gains for the expense (they are pretty expensive even for a value set) and aggravation. In my experience. I did them on my GT and regretted it. They were annoyingly loud even with good resonators.

I put LTH's on my manual GT, and again on my Mach 1. They are pricey for a quality set and worth about 20 hp on a N/A setup. Plan on about 1K to have someone install them. I love the sound, they were extremely loud on the GT, but the active exhaust on the M1 makes them perfect. I put them on strictly for the sound.

Wengerd tunes are awesome, especially if you have an A10, his shift strategy is perfect, Ford should hire him to tune their transmissions. Spend the extra 100 bucks and get the add on E 85 tune, it's well worth it. An added bonus is the exhaust smell on E 85.

Gen 3 engines come with 12:1 compression so they are well equipped to take advantage of the extra octane and inherent cooling effect of E85 Gen 1 and 2 are only 11:1 so they only gain about 5-10 hp on E85, Gen 3's maybe 15.

I spent $650 on a Livernois flex tune and now I'm hooked. Set it back to stock last fall for state inspection and couldn't wait to fill that tank back up with corn.

Thanks - a perfect response for my needs. Mines an A10 so Wengerd it is. Regarding the long tubes...I'm interested in sound, but more HP is not a need. I'm thinking Kooks.

Kooks are one of the most expensive header brands out there. I went with stainless power on both. stainless power is the budget line from stainless works, same material, same quality, just a 2 year warranty vs lifetime, but they can save you a lot of money. I paid about 1500 for them on the mach 1 and I did the install myself on both mustangs.

BTW, headers will not change the sound, only ratchet up the decibels a couple of notches. If you want to change the sound, you need to look at different mufflers and/or resonator or an X or H pipe. If you love the sound of the mach 1 exhaust, but want a little more volume, then headers with the factory exhaust is your answer. In quiet mode it is still perfectly acceptable for a 4 am start up.

I definitely recommend Stainless Power for the money. My installer has done more than he can count and they install clean and work... I had some ordered and they went on back order so I switched gears and went Texas Speed. They were OK too but had to buy head bolts and other goodies that are included in the Stainless kit... Kooks are indeed the best..

If they would have been on back order, I would have just drove over there and got them from Stainless works. Yeah, they're local. So is Corsa and Ultimate headers. Even tho they don't make headers, Flaming River is also local.

I’ve seen a few reliability posts here now, so to clarify. The 5.2L Predator that is in the GT500 is also cross plane crank. Every bit as reliable as a 5.0L Coyote, maybe more so considering the power levels the Predator can handle in stock form. It is not the same as the Voodoo that’s in the GT350, so don’t let the same 5.2L displacement fool you.

Also, the Voodoo issues tend to get amplified here, there’s way more examples of Voodoo’s not having issues than those that have issues. Including several that have boosted their Voodoo’s and have zero issues.
The problem with the voodoo is the cost to replace or repair the engine.

My Mach 1 is my track toy. The odds of me grenading an engine aren't zero.
