so with this tube on the stock box with a oiled drop in filter and a lund 93 tune what kind of gains in HP would one see? approximately.

90% of the gains are from the tune. The filter and tube might yield another 10 horses or so.

I think on a fully dialled in tune with this you could be talking 30-40HP crank gain, so circa 25-30 at the wheels.

Kelly from BMR has done this and his tune is from Palm Beach dyno and he hit 118mph terminal speed on E85 which is a fantastic result.

I tried testing with the inlet/snorkel off over the weekend to test if it is a restriction or now...and the IATS were through the roof....

So I may modify the snorkel (chop apart the right/driver side most portion of the snorkel) to see if it frees up some air flow.

Stock air box is a ram air design, if you do that it will actually flow less.

Flow benching on a desk is nothing like flow on a car travelling at 70mph, the ram air design means the car does not need to suck air, it is being bombarded with air causing positive air pressure within the air box resulting in the only flow limitation being the maf tube diameter.

If you do this you will lose the ram air effect.

Think of it like water, submerge the heatshield in water, with no snorkel the flow improves because it can pulled more surface area of water through the opening.

Then if you re-add the snorkel you limit flow, but now imagine what happens if you pup a pump in the snorkel pumping water, all of a sudden you have more flow as it no longer has to suck or gasp for water as the water is being force fed meaning you maximise flow potential.

The only way you can improve it is to enlarge the opening whilst still retaining a sealed design, if you can do that you might improve flow, but the moment you lose the sealed designed you lose ram air effect which will actually lose you power.

A decent RAM AIR setup can gain around 10HP at 70mph plus speeds.

Then also bear in mind, the higher the IAT, the less dense the air which makes less power, plus the fact that the ECU adds more timing for cooler air when IAT is under 30c, and it will also pull timing past 36-38c too.

RAM Air, lower IAT, makes more power. Just ram as much air to the box as you can.

Correct.

However, in my real world experiences - finding a restriction without having the ram air effect has always shown an improvement in performance at a drag strip.

IE: Dynoing a car...then removing a restriction (even if ram air) and gaining power without the car being at high speed, has always shown an improvement for me.

My idea for the snorkel, I feel would still allow for a ramming effect, but it would definitely drop the pressure on the pre-filter side of the system.

Unfortunately I am now onto testing other intake designs. But the stock stuff has been fun!

(keep in mind, best performance from a standing start will ALWAYS be most improved by the first half of the track...when the ram effect in this specific situation is not playing much of a fact. Decreasing 330' ET will be best done with a system that is as open and free flowing as possible)

Much of a diff to the Airaid one gameovergt?

I think it makes more noise from the engine which is cool, exhaust note seems to have mellowed out more. Not sure on anything else as I have not done any WOT runs yet.
