What is the minimum brake pad thickness excluding the backing plate before pads need to be replaced? I have about 8mm of pad in fronts. It looks quite a bit less than rears. I have 35,000 miles (all city/highway driving). How long do we expect these pads to last usually and once you change them do you change all 4 or just fronts? What about the rotors?

Thanks

They can run down to 3mm pad depth if you're not tracking them. The OEM pads have a metal finger that starts rubbing on the rotor when they're worn out - it's an audible warning that it's time for new pads.

If it were me, I'd keep an eye on them, but otherwise just wait for the noise. The fronts will probably wear out before the rears because they do most of the work, but if you're paying a shop to do the replacement, it's probably worth doing all four corners at once just so you don't have to go back a second time.

Thank you. What about rotors, good idea to replace them as well? How thick do they need to be?

Also one thing I just realized is when i gently push the rear pads, they make click click noise and looks like they are not making contact with the rotor as much as fronts and fronts dont do that click click. Both rear pads do this.

Recently the shop adjusted my hand brake because it wasnt holding the car unless you really pulled it all the way and now its opposite you can pull it maybe 1/5th of what you used to and it holds the car. I dont know somehow if this caused the rear pads not to engage fully while car is stationary and off.
