Metal clunk found

After installing a few of BMRs suspension components I found a pretty loud clunk when I would shift into first gear and reverse. I also notice clunks when changing gear.

After checking each fastener I took a look at the driveshaft and the axles. I noticed that there is a lot of play in the CV joints on the differential side. If you notice in the video when I rotate the CV jointThe axle itself does not move. My car is an EB PP with less than 4k miles and zero launches.

I also have the DSS CF driveshaft so there is no play there.

I'm debating on just upgrading to new axles or going aftermarket.

I am going to check mine with the FRPP shafts, and will also check the BMR PP car with the stock shafts once it is back on the lift.

Ours is very sloppy. I just went and checked it, and I was actually very surprised.

It appears to be worse than this video. That said, we have beat the ever living $hlt out of it. ;)

Good thread - keeping my eye on it - I have thud too. GT premium w/PP - 200 miles.

The only thing I dislike is the trans noise.

Plan to take it in to dealer around 750 - 1000 miles

Odd because it sounds like it is coming from directly below the car like by the transmission when I am sitting in my car.

Just an update.

We recently had a customer in here for the installation of some prototype parts..

Base GT, stock shafts.

The shafts had NO play in them. I couldn't get them to budge....

Yeah I actually meant to bring that up to, forgot about it. Mentioned the thud during the install, BMR checked and it was rock solid. 6000 miles at the time and I don't exactly baby my baby either.

If it makes a difference the car must be in neutral. Parking brake can be on, just checked it out today..

Ok, so I noticed a noise coming from the trans or driveshaft that I can't explain. I am going to look at what you talked about in the video. While driving my EBPP I feel and hear a click and or popping noise, it can be felt it the shifter when it happens. It happens randomly and have tried to just duplicate the problem, but unsuccessful. When it happens I'm usually in 4-5-6 gear and gradually accelerating on level ground or going up hills. I explained this to the dealer and service has never heard of this before. It's a Roush Stage 1, not that it changes anything on the drive-train.

The 'thud' noise you hear when shifting into 1st gear is created by engine rotational force transfered to the transmission causing some gears to spin , as you press the clutch pedal down, a clutch break should stop that spin process almost immediately allowing you for no "thud" shifts into 1st. If you press down the clutch pedal and hold for 5+ seconds the "thud will be gone" This is were an aftermarket has to step up and design a better clutch break

Thanks for the replay. My EBPP is not having the describe noise when shifting, only while in gear and accelerating I can hear and feel this noise. The only thing I can remember what is sounds and feels like is when my old 88 ford ranger universal joint starting going bad. I was thinking mounts or axels, the last time it happen I was gradually accelerating up a pretty good size hill around 2000 rpm in 6th gear. It popped and that was it, my initial impression was the trans trying to pop out of gear. It has happened in 3rd gear through 6th gear, and around lower rpm's. Sorry wish I had a way to catch it on video.

Thank you so much for finding out what this is. I didn't have this noise until after installing differential bushing inserts and the BMR CB005. I thought I messed up and left something loose or not torqued properly since the noise happened after the install. It's been driving me nuts the last 3 weeks because I wasn't able to find a single bolt in my undercarriage that wasn't torqued to spec. Well, at least I know all my suspension components are torqued to spec.
