Last year I was at the dealer to look at the Mustang they just got into the showrooms and what I noticed mostly material quality wise the center console being insanely cheap plastic. Really harsh and rough.

Just recently I was at the dealer again with the new 2016 Mustang in the showroom I noticed the middle console was still hard plastic but it felt like it was a better quality plastic. No longer harsh and rough.

Anyone here with a first year model that did some comparisons with this years model ? And noticed this as well ? It might just all be in my head.

Was that first one a pre-production demo car? That's what we had in the UK and they were very, very early builds, not for sale. The quality was below par, for sure.

For as far I know it was an actual showroom model people could buy.

Well, you do realize that you are looking at a Ford?! A US one at that.....quality can not be compared to the likes of European made cars, or japanese for that matter!

The price says it all ;)

I was comparing the center console of the 2015 vs 2016 EU Mustang.... Not exactly sure how US quality comes into play when it's being compared to the same car of a different model year :)

And I was even bringing up a possible quality increase :p

Well, the quality is what it is....;)

On a rental Ford in the US recently, the quality was so bad it literally fell apart...

Maybe you are comparing a 'base' model with a 'custom pack' one that has better interiors (fake leather with real stitching vs plastic with fake stitching).

Just talkin center console where the cup holders and shifter are. Don't think this part changes with custom pack. Both models were custom pack for that matter.

I don't understand why the didn't wrap the center console around cup holders in leather. It would've been nicer than having the overhead in leather to where we'd actually feel it and put some faux leather up there to make it look nice

Note that there's a pretty big standard deviation on these cars. After noticing it, I talked to my dealer about it. They said they noticed the exact same. It's like the panel alignment. Sometimes it's perfect, sometimes it's shit. So they change the panel alignment on every car themselves before delivery. Thing is, it's more than just the panel alignment. They said sometimes there's even a difference in the paint job. So I can imagine the interior quality might be the exact same. Nine out of ten as it should have been, one time shit.

You might be right, maybe just a slightly different batch of plastics or the fabrication machine had a good day.
