I'm at 20k miles on my 2015 (I know i drive a lot..) and I get the "thud" when shifting into second when the transmission is cold mainly. It seems the slower I shift trying to baby the transmission shift, it will even make a "thundering" sound when engaging the synchro, it feels like I'm actually grinding a gear, but i know what a grinding gear sounds like, and this isn't that high pitch grind sound.

The warmer the transmission gets, the less of a "thud" i get when shifting into second. Also, even if its cold, if I shift faster into second with more authority in my arm it will not do the "thundering" sound.
Will changing my transmission oil fix this?
LOL
Yeah, I get that too, but I don't drive my car much at all. :headbonk:
Have you guys address this with your Ford Dealers yet to ensure nothing else is going on? Also, I’m happy to escalate this for you. Please, PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number.

Personally, I'm still planning on bringing this up with my service station.

The issue, from my non-mechanic perspective, seems to be coming from the stored energy in the half of the transmission connected to the engine. If, at a stop, you shift to neutral and drop the clutch and rev to 4k RPM, then clutch to floor and force the shifter into 1st, you'll get a nasty jolt/thud as the transmission that was spinning gets halted (since you were at a stop). Makes sense. I don't see how you can stop it except to slow the tranny down slower by using the synchros or by letting the engine RPMs fall and keeping the clutch out. Does this make sense?

My thoughts are, they will announce the fix on this one day.. Does not seem to be hurting anything as of yet.. Put in the tune..
Some people just don't care about it... I do.. My dealer had car for 4 days and admits it sounds worse than any they have heard, but Ford has no bulletin on it and they can't figure it out?
I have chosen to order a new car and eat a few dollars only because mine had been thru 3 dealers and god knows how many test drives and I thought it said 37.6 miles, finding over 400 miles the next day .. Took it back they said I signed..
I want to break in my own car

My thud seems to be getting worse, a tad under 700 miles now. If it's normal that's fine, I just worry about it not being normal. I guess I should take it in soon.

I guess I don't have too much to worry about either way, plenty of members here with a lot more miles than I have and zero driveability issues.

My car is over at dealer now... They asked to keep it for 4 days so they could go over it again... This will be last time it goes in for this issue.. I will just deal with clunking noise and thud with the radio and window down...

They requested the car.... They feel and hear the noise, just can't find it....At least they're trying...

I hope they find the cause!
