Yeah... my launches blow chunks right now. Even revving up to 2000 and dumping the clutch, it bogs down, drops to low rpms and probably loses a full second off the eighth mile.

I'm definitely doing it wrong. Let's try this from a different angle. You're at a light. You want to go fast. You don't want to wait until second gear to be fast... What do you do, exactly?
I'm not alone then!

We need sticky tire people to tell us whether they bog down or not when dumping the clutch. Or we need to know if clutch protection is causing the bog and if it can be turned off via tune.

Not yet. One of these days I'll get to it. I'm more of a 'how does it pull coming out of a corner in 2nd gear' kind of guy.
It pulls in second like a Goddamn freight train with a jet engine strapped to it.

My trouble seems to be related to bogging down in first. Once in second, the car is a rocket.

I have the stickiER (I wouldn't call them sticky in general just more so than the A/S) tires and I can pretty well launch as hard as I want from a stop light on a warm dry day and get just a little tire chirp followed by gut wrenching acceleration. I don't have to wait until 2nd but I also have the 3.73s so that's an added variable.

Yeah, I love that. To me the most impressive part is how it keeps pulling in 3rd, 4th, 5th. That's power for you. There are a lot of cars that are quick in 1st and 2nd gear. Not as many that continue to pull.

I have the same and my car burns them all through first, even with a rollout. Very annoying. 1st gear is useless.

Let some air out of your back tires. I've notice a difference in traction. I have back tires at 30 psi when there are warm. Now I need it to stop raining everyday. Practice and one day I'll have it figured out.

On a sticky tire. Turn off all the nannies rev it up to at least 5000 (5500 is better) slip it fast. Not a dump but not far off. Anything less than 5000 and you will bog. When you can get your 60 ft to 1.7 or preferably lower you are doing it right. Doing anything on the stock tires is not going to be work or be fast. Save those tires for burnouts and storage and get a 305 on the back, Preferably a drag tire or the like. M.T ET street R, Nitto 555R2, Toyo888R all have descent success on the street and the strip. Bias ply floppy 17" for the strip for big launch that may also be easier on your axels and drives shaft.
