I'm not going too crazy yet since the motor is breaking in. But the last stick shift I drove was a f*cking Sentra. So I never really picked up good manual launching habits. No point. I suddenly realized I don't really know how to do it well.

So... How do you launch for good 0-60, 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile times? Not to mention regular stoplight hooning...

Just rev up and dump the clutch? And how is the launch control?

As far as I know, you can set up the launch control, and when it's in use, you just dump the clutch and zoom.

Turn all the nannies off. If you have the stock tires, you need to roll out and then gun it. I experience bog in 1st gear's lower RPM range when I do this likely due to the clutch protection program and my stock tune.

If you have sticky tires, I hope you have upgraded half shafts before you try dumping the clutch.

I have yet to try launch control:

Launch control is sweet...but you'd better be ready for it. Nothing like launching that thing at 3k rpm.

Does it roast stock tires?

Mine is the PP and it won't roast tires. It launches great and gets traction fast. Line locks on the other hand will let me burn them up... lol

Considering the cost of tire replacement, I'll have to take everyone's word for it.

I have the 20's. On good pavement at a 3k launch it does a good job of getting off the line.

Problem is, 3 out of 5 times, I get wheel hop, and that causes the launch control program to pull power because of the extra wheel spin.

I have found as others have said, I get better consistent results by just feathering off the line.

On the stock tires we have, you'll get a lot of wheel hop even with launch control. Better off using your foot to control it. I haven't done a hard launch from a stop in a while, but I'd try a near-clutch dump from about 2000-2500 rpm and roll on the power.

Do any 0-60 or 1/8 mile runs on Track Apps yet?

Not yet. One of these days I'll get to it. I'm more of a 'how does it pull coming out of a corner in 2nd gear' kind of guy.

Yeah... my launches blow chunks right now. Even revving up to 2000 and dumping the clutch, it bogs down, drops to low rpms and probably loses a full second off the eighth mile.

I'm definitely doing it wrong. Let's try this from a different angle. You're at a light. You want to go fast. You don't want to wait until second gear to be fast... What do you do, exactly?
